Why didn't Sox suspend Manny?
Manny Ramirez did something that, had it happened in the private business world, might very well have gotten him arrested if someone had been of a mind to press charges. There is no possible excuse for a fit 36-year-old athlete to put his hands on a 64-year-old traveling secretary, much less shove him hard enough to hit the floor. Never mind the idea that Manny had made an impossible request of Jack McCormick. Ramirez's request for 16 last-minute tickets to a sold-out game is laughable. The idea that this foolish request would be the springboard to an assault is disturbing. How could the Red Sox not suspend Manny for at least one game? It is incomprehensible that such smart people as John Henry, Larry Lucchino, and Theo Epstein didn't understand how much they had to gain by taking a stand for honor and decency. There is no more thankless task in baseball than that of the traveling secretary. How can any of the Red Sox brass now look Jack McCormick in the eye?

Its obvious that he was just trying the Pedro move. Shoving senoirs to the ground is a Red Sox tradition. No fine or suspension is definitly playing favorites.

I've never been a Sox hater; but, now I really, really want to see them miss the playoffs this year. Go Rays! Go A's!

It is no secret, and not exclusive to the Red Sox. The bigger star you are on a team, the more you can get away with. It is about winning.

Manny wasn't suspended b/c they don't want to send the wrong message.....you know, that they actually respect the other employees in the organization.

This is NO different than Chacon. He should be released. The hypocricy is amazing in this sport. Chacon gets killed for his thing and Manny gets nothing. Amazing. Manny being Manny is getting VERY old. Show some class boston.

George is an **** there's no doubt. There's also no doubt in my mind that Reggie Jackson would have been suspended if he'd attacked a 64 year old Yankee employee. Some lines can't be crossed and Manny crossed one of those lines.
The Red Sox have been bragging about the world wide following. Do they understand they are risking that following by letting a big brute in his mid 30's attack senior employees of the organization?

im sure if jack would have been irate and called for a suspension they would have. we have no idea what really happened behind close doors. maybe this jack guy took it worth a grain of salt and it wasnt really a big deal. i mean manny wasnt slapping women around. he shoved an old man, i mean who hasnt done that in there life.

plus Chacon psuhed his GM not some secratary. there is a pecking order here. im sure if manny pushed down Theo it woulda been a different story. its sad thats the way it is but at work if i would push one of my mechanics nothign would happen but if i went to the boss and pushed him around i would get canned. i mean comone folks u all know that. you are all only hating cuz you dont like manny. if i was a loved player like pudge or chiiper jones no one would say anyhting

I keep putting that in my own workplace. I'd seriously be looking for another job if a big brute was allowed to make an absurd request of an old man and knock him down for not filling the request without some serious punishment.

For the last few years, it's become acceptable in society to do whatever you want as long as you apologize afterwards, so you can turn right back around and misbehave again. No difference here.

I'm not buying it. Whether I buy it or not, the reason for punishment is to deter others. What good is the punishment if it's kept secret.
I wonder how Varitek. Lowell, and Drew feel about sitting next to Manny in the dugout these days. I think the guy just went from amusingly annoying to toxic myself. We'll see how the Sox do this year now that everyone knows the insane Manny is the boss.

CardsFan2 ...I agree with you, but it is not going to happen on the Red Sox with" Manny." Sad, but true...Reggie Jackson and the rest were never considered bigger than the team. The only one with that kind of power was George Steinbrenner. There is no comparison between the Yankees and the Red Sox through the ages. If any thing, they were polar opposites. One was about winning and tradition, the other about failure and tradition.
The Red Sox are new to this winning thing and now they have finally experienced it, they will do anything to keep guys like " Manny" on the field and say " it is being dealt with in house." And we all know what that really means.
I am sure the Red Sox fans will come out and disagree with what I have said. But, it is accurate.
