Jazz interested in Maggette

The Jazz are one of four teams identified as having expressed interest in Corey Maggette, the longtime Clippers swingman who put himself on the NBA's summer free-agency shopping market Monday. Citing "a source close to him who requested anonymity because negotiations are still in the early stages," the Los Angeles Times reported on its Web site Tuesday that "Maggette has been contacted by several NBA teams regarding his availability," including Orlando, Miami, Boston and Utah. The Jazz actually signed Maggette to a six-year, $42 million offer sheet in 2003, when he was a restricted free agent. But the Clippers matched that offer, retaining his rights.

again, never take anything the clippers had first.

this guy is good. i saw or heard something that the spurs were interested as well. i think he fits better in SA. especially with ginoboli being a no show in the playoffs and mike finley at the end of his career

I agreeee
But can't stand your name dude

So if they replace AK47 at forward with Maggette....I think it is a downgrade defensively.

July 3, 2008  10:21 AM ET

Maggette is lucky that not too many good players are available via free agency this summer. This **** is actually going to get a decent deal somewhere.

July 3, 2008  10:30 AM ET

Let Utah have him. Then, a smart GM would be trying like hell to sign Kirilenko. He's all-around a good player, even though his numbers were down last year.

July 3, 2008  10:41 AM ET

I agree with you, I'd rather have AK47 than Maggette. Kirilenko's numbers may be down, but that is because there are a lot more scoring options in Utah now (Boozer, Deron, Okur) than there were a few years ago when he was a bigger scorer. I think he is all-around a better player than Maggette

July 3, 2008  10:55 AM ET

if im Utah...i sign him, keep kirilenko, and put Maggette at the 2(sg) spot...ROnnie brewer has been ok but Maggette would add depth...that's if the utah go for him...

July 3, 2008  10:55 AM ET

He's a good player. He'll need to take the mid-level exception somewhere and get his dollars next season.

July 3, 2008  10:56 AM ET

oops...take out the "The" after if...

July 3, 2008  10:57 AM ET

have any of you duds seen ak47s contract what a f()(king agent

no team touches a good average player on that money

3 years left 49 million (not even the knicks - anymore)

July 3, 2008  12:21 PM ET

This would be a great deal, I mean the Jazz have been wanting Maggette for years and have just been waiting for timing. He would do well as a sign and trade with the Jazz. Send them CJ Miles, Jarron Collins and one of the Centers we just drafted, or maybe Morris Almond. I dunno but this could go down.

And the Jazz could include AK47.

July 3, 2008  12:42 PM ET

Joe,

Miles, Collins, and a center or Almond, as well as Kirilienko?

For Maggette, please tell me you're not serious?

July 3, 2008  03:18 PM ET

maggette is a decent player who can fit in almost any offensive style and plays good defense as well

July 3, 2008  03:29 PM ET

i thought that the spurs were in the running. are they not?

Petey024 | 07/03/08, 12:42 PM

NOT ALL OF THEM, just those are options that could be used. I didnt mean all 4 but that the Jazz could make a deal with either of the 4 in some type of sign and trade.

July 3, 2008  07:04 PM ET

Maggette in Utah, can he handel the mourmon way there? would you want something the Clippers had first? that would be like sloppy seconds.
