Davis' decision helps Spurs
If the Spurs emerge from the Western Conference playoffs and win another NBA title next season they might have to consider giving a playoff share to Baron Davis. Davis' decision to opt out of the final year of his Golden State Warriors contract, which would have paid him $17.8 million, has set the table for the Spurs to make an offer to Clippers guard-forward Corey Maggette, just the sort of athletic wing man they have coveted for the past few seasons. Should the Spurs make an offer to Maggette, who on Monday opted out of a deal that would have paid him $7 million next season, they won't have to worry about the Clippers negating it by using their "Larry Bird" rights to offer him a deal worth a lot more.

The spurs would be smart to get Corey but does that mean Finley is out?

the spurs are in desperate need for some fresh faces and should perhaps thinking about trading one of their top players for lottery picks instead of investing in foreign talent

Let Finley go and do everything you can to snatch up Maggette. He's still under 30, hitting his prime and your roster needs to get younger, San Antonio.

He is just the kind of player they need, do it quick, let Finley go if you have to.

Maggette would be wise to seriously consider the Spurs, and become part of a winner. Michael Finley is 35 years old. It's my guess if the Spurs can sign Maggette, Finley is history.

This is a good fit for both of them. The Spurs need an athletic wing man who can score, and, make them a younger team. If Maggette wants a chance to possibly win an NBA title, this is his opportunity. A win-win all around.

If I were the Spurs, I would sign Maggette. They need youth so desperately on that team. Finley is done.

What if....?
What if San Antonio made an offer to Brand, figuring to match him with Duncan in the frontcourt?

The Spurs do need Maggette. They really need athleticism and he brings that to the table.

Maggette should join the Spurs and get a ring. And it would be a great fit for the Spurs. He would be another scoring threat, be able to draw the opposing team away from Duncan, and immediately make the Spurs a younger team.
As for Finley, he has most likely played his last game for the Spurs. That is unless they don't pick up anyone for that position. If Finley does stay, he will play less minutes than he has.
Brent Barry is a free agent and most likely will not be a Spur next season. He will probably be with the Rockets, although he will be pursued by a few teams for his three point shooting ability.
I'm sure that the Spurs will make every effort to Maggette. I sure hope so.
Go Spurs Go!

Wow Spurs might get incredibly stronger and many of you support the move. I think I have a tear in my eye. On that Note....
Spurs you better find away to sign Corey and Corey would be smart to sign with the Spurs. this will make the West conference rival btwn Spurs And Lakers very exciting to watch.
Pop and Buford will do everything in their power to make this happen.
I can't wait to see the impact this will have in the West. I LOVE THIS GAME

If they sign Magettte All the Spurs would need is a decent post player and a few young skilled legs on the bench and they will be hell of a force in the NBA

What was Baron Davis so pissed about that he walked away from 17.8 mil with the Warriors to take 10 mil with the Clippers?
Did he really want to go home for the end of his career that badly?
Did he really hate being benched for one game that much?
Does he really hate playing for Don Nelson that bady?
I think something else is going on here.
Throw me a friggin' clue man!

This has to be one of the most important moves for the Spurs. If Magettte is smart he will sign with San Antonio. Last I heard San Antonio and Orlando were the front runners to sign him. He wants a ring???.its obvious. San Antonio is for him. Orlando is no where ready for a title run. Like someone said in an earlier post, its Win-Win for him and the Spurs.

Corey. Don't **** this up. Sign with the Spurs. You want to be on a contender that can win it all as soon as next season (San Antonio), not one that may not go the distance until your best years are past you (Orlando).

easy, he is into movie producing, it means a lot of $$$, maybe more than what he is losing contract-wise, so he had to be in LA, some players are actually smart investors and realize that having a job and your own business gets you more money than just getting paid by a business owner, even at that high level

Thanks Kite,
I heard about the production company, I'd forgotten about that. You're right, if that takes off right for him then "life after basketball begins".
That makes sense. Baron is smart like that.
He probably took his advice from his buddy, Adam Sandler.

Him coming in and KNOWING he won't be the #1 or 2 option......
will greatly benefit him.
At best he could be a shawn Marion type player......which is a FANTASTIC #3 or #4 player
