Steinbrenner: Nobody is safe

Hank Steinbrenner sent up his own Fourth of July fireworks yesterday, unloading on his unproductive Yankees hitters just in time for the big holiday weekend with the Red Sox coming to town tonight. "Nobody is sacred . . . nobody is safe," Steinbrenner told The Post. If players aren't performing, they could be benched or sent to the minors. "I don't care who they are or how much money they make," he declared. The Yankees then provided their own Stadium fireworks with Jason Giambi leading the way with a grand slam and two-run double in an 18-7 pounding of the Rangers. Interestingly enough, the one player Hank went out of his way to praise during our chat was Giambi, even though Giambi has been struggling with runners in scoring position.

Yeah, like they might be able to get away with trading Mr Yankee, a.k.a Derek Jeter. That is the one guy the Yankees fans would never forgive him for trading.

Wow and you think the players are scared? They make millions and this jerk wants to say Nobody is Safe? Great, Who Cares, BFD. You spent the money you degenerate. Your deal, not theirs. You should sell the team becasue Big Daddy is getting closer to signing a long term deal with the Man himself. What a jerk.

July 3, 2008  07:20 AM ET

that would be funny if they sent jeter to the minors.

July 3, 2008  07:20 AM ET

yeah no one is safe, that means that everyone is out.

The big names are all doing their jobs. It's Cabrera, Cano, and the bench players who aren't contributing. That, shaky pitching, and injuries to Matsui and Posada are what's wrong with the Yankees. That's a shame because their core players aren't getting any younger.

A-ROD seems to be hitting pretty bad, i guess the rest of the team is following suit

its time to ditch the wife, girlfriends, mistresses and baby's mumas - for the knicks cheerleaders, they wont be sucking as much c0(k in the off-season for those losers

Can Hank make Giambi get rid of that cheesy 'p-o-r-n star' mustache? :-)

July 3, 2008  08:17 AM ET

spot on the mo 'it makes him look like he's got something to hide'

Giambi, Grand Slam, do not underestimate the power of the Stache. the Stache stays until Giambi cools off.

July 3, 2008  09:06 AM ET

The 18 runs last night might make some people a little more safe.

July 3, 2008  09:28 AM ET

Giambi's stache is not going anywhere. He believes it is helping him hit, so he will keep it. It always provides entertainment to see how dark it will be on a given day. Baby Boss is all talk. If he tried to send Jeter or A-Rod to the minors, he would be laughed right out of MLB.

becca- Dustin basically hit for the cycle last night and yet he's getting no love from the press. All because Hank cried and the Yansks cored some runs to appease him and because Arod is cheating on his wife again.

AARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!! What a disappointing ending for me last night. It was a great game up until the seventh inning.

They didn't suspend him because they cannot afford at this point in the season, even if it was for 1 game. Of course there are othe reasons but thats is my primary.
