Athens police issued a warrant for the arrest of Georgia football player Michael Lemon on Wednesday, The Associated Press reported. The victim's family corroborated the report to the AJC on Wednesday night. Jacqueline Jackson, whose son, DeMarius Jackson, suffered a blowout fracture of his left eye socket when Lemon allegedly punched him Saturday night, said Athens police informed them late Wednesday afternoon that Lemon would be arrested for aggravated battery, which is a felony. DeMarius Jackson, a rising junior at UGA, claims that Lemon, a 6-foot-4, 274-pound defensive lineman attacked him and punched him at least five times Saturday night at a barbecue at an apartment complex.

I'm not exactly sure what a "blowout fracture" is, but it sounds awfully painful. Also, the article states that the victim was "a rising junior". Was he a teammate of the guy who hit him? Just curious.

it sure seems like a lot of Georgia players are getting arrested lately.

It does seem like that, and they need to quit f'n up.

Lemon said that a guy was talking to his girl. At least talk some shiznit to the guy before decking him when he's not looking.

I don't think Demarius Jackson is a football player.

Chunk him in jail like a average Joe. And by the way things are going, he won't be lonely.

July 3, 2008  10:33 AM ET

So this felony equates to a two-game suspension?

July 3, 2008  01:18 PM ET

Other than this, any word on how the bbq was?

July 3, 2008  01:28 PM ET

One word for you.... Thugs

July 3, 2008  02:35 PM ET

Not to give this guy an excuse...but he's 20 and his past is more tragic than most 20 year olds. He watched his best friend die after a car wreck, he was holding him. Then His mother's boyfriend beat his mother to death and set the house on fire.

Now, not at all condoning this guys action...but there's more to this puzzle than meets the eye.

Demarius is not a GA football player. I've been a dawg fan all my life and am tired of seeing these arrests...I think it's played up a bit more because GA is considered going into number 1 this year. BUT you don't see this happening to USC or Ohio State's players.

Hopefully Richt can on top of this before we see another picture of Stafford holding a keg over his head...this time throwing it at someone.

Man, save that aggression for the games. But we can't defend this, commit a criminal act, suffer the consequences. Especially for something as stupid as this. Kinda makes me wonder, if the kid has judgement this poor, do we really want him repping the Dawgs on the D line? Aggressive, tough, yes, idiot, no.

July 4, 2008  12:26 AM ET

sucka

July 4, 2008  12:31 AM ET

Lots of people have bad things happen to those close to them and they don't go around beating people up for no reason. And some guy talking to his girl friend is no reason to crush his face. Let him sit in a jail cell for a year.

That is why the players are so fast in the SEC. Comes from running from the cops all the time.
