Sources: Warriors want Brand

Suddenly and swiftly, the question in Clipperland on Wednesday became: What will Elton Brand do? In a whirlwind that amounted to "who has the salary cap space now?" the Golden State Warriors reached deep down the coastline and even deeper into their pocketbooks, offering free-agent forward Brand a five-year, $90-million contract, according to multiple NBA sources who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly about player movements. The 76ers, one of the remaining teams with significant space under the expected cap, are also expected to enter the competition for Brand's services, creating a potential bidding war for the All-Star forward.

Couldn't they just trade Davis for Brand?

Report Offensive Commentthey should save their money or go after somebody who isn't as advancing in age, or damaged goods. good luck, getting out of this contract. i would never take the clippers second at anything

Report Offensive CommentGSW should go after...... Josh Smith- haha

Report Offensive CommentElton Brand is worth 90 million? I dont' get these NBA salaries, I can understand Kobe's salary and Garnett's, but what has Elton Brand done as a Bull or a Clipper to warrant 90 million? This si almost as laughable as Arenas 125 million.
hitman | 07/03/08, 07:56 AM
Report Offensive CommentThis looks like damage control by warriors management but Brand is probably worth it. If Arenas' market value is 125 Brand is a steal at 90. Overall, Brand can go toe to toe with the best 4 men in the league. Its something the Warriors haven't had for a long time.
I doubt Brand will go for it though, he's got to want to stay in LA with B-Diddy at the point. Worst case for the Warriors at least they make the Clips pay a bit for their maneuver of getting Baron.
Also....they better lock Monta up before somebody tries to steal him, too.

Report Offensive CommentIf I were Brand, Magette or Livingston I'd stay in Clipperland for 2 more years. They can play with a all-star caliber playmaker.
C: Kaman
PF: Brand
SF: Magette
SG: Mobley
PG: Davis
bench: Eric Gordon, Shaun Livingston, Tim Thomas, Al Thornton

Report Offensive CommentBoy Brand sure did have to take a day or two to think about it though huh? Turning down an extra $25 mil or so is pretty hard to do, even if it means you are going to get to stay with your team, play with a better team, etc.
Lets see what he chooses.

Report Offensive CommentI hope Brand stays in LA, and i hope someone makes a ridiculous offer to Monta that GS can't match....I hate Chris Mullin. He's BY far the worst GM in the history of sports
ESPN | 07/03/08, 09:05 AM
Report Offensive CommentPhilly stay away from this guy. Until he proves he is back from injury he is not worth the money. Philly put your money on Josh Smith.
maxwellinformed | 07/03/08, 09:08 AM
Report Offensive CommentMullins built this team. Up to this point, he's made sound decisions. How does he refuse to sign Baron Davis, citing his injury history, then offer $90 million to a player off the injury list? Read it.

Report Offensive CommentThis is just a sort of 'you got me, now I'll get you' kind of move, IMHO.
Brand should stay with the Clippers. Suddenly, this team will be very entertaining, and, could compete for the NBA playoffs in ;09.
realcrusader | 07/03/08, 09:40 AM
Report Offensive CommentIf Brand joins the Warriors then basically a whole lot of nothing just happen both those teams trading their superstar players are just going to keep them in the same place(fringe playoff teams).
Brand please resign with the clippers , join Baron Davis, and make some noise.
notbychoice | 07/03/08, 09:57 AM
Report Offensive CommentHe's going back to the Clippers. He has a lot going for him in Los Angeles and I can't see him walking away from that.

Report Offensive CommentEverybody needs to calm down. There is nobody on the Warriors now and I can't really see him fitting in well with the 76ers. Brand is staying with the Clippers. He and Baron Davis are going to make it rain next year.
bertchboy7 | 07/03/08, 10:08 AM
Report Offensive CommentWe are still talking about the Clippers?
You could replace the entire team with the Olympic roster going to Beijing and
the Clipper organization would still find a way to get bounced in the first round.
LF | 07/03/08, 10:33 AM
Report Offensive CommentGolden State doesnt want Brand. Mullin is trying to drive up the price the Clippers would have to pay to ratain Brand. If the clippers match the offer and Brand signs that would make it very diffucult for the clippers to add a good supporting cast around a good nucleus and the result would be the same as last year. A sub .500 squad. Mullin is probably ticked off at the Clippers for stealing Baron Davis and he intends to make it difficult for the Clippers to compete. What if the Clippers call his bluff? Mullins will be stuck with brand, post a torn achilles tendon and a untradable contract for five years. Emotional spending is never a good idea.
