Source: Knicks interest Warriors' Ellis

While the Knicks continue to wait for Chris Duhon to accept or reject their offer, another interesting scenario is beginning to surface involving Monta Ellis, the dynamic young guard for the Golden State Warriors. Ellis, 22, a restricted free agent, is starting to draw a great deal of attention in several sign-and-trade scenarios. A person with knowledge of the situation said nine teams have made inquiries about Ellis. The Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers have shown the most interest. The Knicks, who are searching for point guard help, are not one of those teams, but a second source said the Knicks have been monitoring the situation. Warriors executive vice president Chris .Mullin has maintained he .intends to sign Ellis. Knicks president Donnie Walsh and Mullin are close, so Walsh won't act unless Mullin is ready to deal. A person close to Ellis said the lightning-quick guard "would be very interested in the Knicks" and especially playing for D'Antoni.

he will be a bust like starbary

After losing Baron Davis, the Warriors would be crazy to let Ellis slip away.

July 4, 2008  09:37 AM ET

They should get him

July 4, 2008  10:26 AM ET

Dear Mr. Walsh,
We do not care if the Knicks win a single game this year. All we ask is that you get rid of as many current players and contracts this year as you can.
Any three or four for one trades would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

50 year fan -
excellent letter........

I second your opinion of PURGING everyone
then we can pretent the last 5 years didn't happen

July 4, 2008  10:43 AM ET

why on God's green earth would GS let him leave? He's all they've got now. What could NY possibly have that is compelling in a trade?

July 4, 2008  10:53 AM ET

Oh yeah..........

the most important nfo I got from the article was that
"would be very interested in the Knicks......and playing for D'Antoni"

THAT is EXCELLENT when someone wants to come here

Housecleaning is what everyone thought was going to happen when Walsh arrived. Unfortunately he left his balls in Indianapolis. There is no hope or possibility of success as the team is consrtucted now.

July 4, 2008  11:23 AM ET

ya like the warriors are gonna let ellis go

knicks are interested but that means jack ****...every team is ''interested'' in ellis...he's a helluva player

July 4, 2008  11:44 AM ET

This is a by-product of signing D'Antoni that has gotten little press. Young, athletic players are going to want to come to play for him in his system, thinking he can do for them what he did for Nash, Diaw, Marion and Stoudamire, playing in a wide-open offense.

check it out if you've ever dealt with Cassidy

July 4, 2008  11:59 AM ET

please, suspend the rookies and lee for some bogus charge, then take down the knicks plane, it would save the franchise

July 4, 2008  12:00 PM ET

The NBA offseason- Also known as the Knicks way of overjudging talent.

July 4, 2008  12:38 PM ET

Thre baically letting there entire team go after years of nothing. Theres no way there getting Bradn so to let Ellie go lets trade Jackson bc hey why not

July 4, 2008  12:38 PM ET

Ellis going to Knicks makes sense only to the Knicks which means it won't happen.

July 4, 2008  12:56 PM ET

Love the homer wishful thinking! Like a talent like Ellis leaves Don Nelson for D'Antoni because of a....wide open offense??? In case you don't know, the GSW's are the top scoring team in the league. Ellis is also a restricted free agent. What combination of Knicks players are they going to trade for him?

July 4, 2008  01:17 PM ET

I think Ellis would be perfect in NY! Go east young man, go east!

July 4, 2008  01:21 PM ET

The Knicks wish, the Warriors aren't that stupid to let Ellis walk.

July 4, 2008  01:57 PM ET

Yeah right! and what are the Knicks going to offer Golden St. in return? The Scarecrow (Zach Randolph) or the Tin Man, (Eddy Curry)? Or better yet, the artist previously known as Stephon Marbury. Gosh, sounds like too good a deal for Golden St. to pass up!

Having justreturned from a few years in the Bay. The Warriors did well by taking a leap of faith and grabbing Ellis early on- now they need to keep hi mand reap the rewards of a gutsy move- and a rare one in their history. And this is coming from a Knick fan. Duhon would be ill advised to pass on the Knick offer. He can come in and ressurect his post-Duke career and be a star in the apple. Or a worm....
