Favre interested in Panthers?

Was just alerted to the Profootballtalk.com report that suggests if QB Brett Favre comes back, he'd want to play for the Panthers. That's not happening, and it's not because Favre doesn't want to come here. For starters, the Panthers have a starter they like just fine in Jake Delhomme. And while the world seems to think his arm's going to fly off like a scene from Monty Python, he's actually ahead of schedule coming back from last year's elbow surgery. Also, the Panthers think far more highly of Matt Moore than most, which should have been obvious when they didn't sign a veteran free agent or draft one.

That makes sense. He wants to retire from the same team that his son, Vinnie Testaverde, did.

Why doesn't this dude just go away! Doesn't he know they don't allow senior citizens in wheel chairs to play in the NFL?

July 4, 2008  09:54 AM ET

I think the Favre rumors are getting out of control.

July 4, 2008  09:58 AM ET

What a lame rumor.

July 4, 2008  10:09 AM ET

How many years are we going to have to listen to the Favre rumors? Sure if Rodgers struggles or gets hurt we'll have to here the ones about him coming back to the Packers. But are we going to have to listen to rumors of him coming back for any team with a struggeling or injured QB? And just how excatly is it a come back when he hasn't missed a game yet? Can't we call it Favre coming out of retirement once the season actually starts?

July 4, 2008  10:12 AM ET

can we just forget about favre. He was a great QB, hall of fame bound, but really...just leave the poor guy alone!

July 4, 2008  10:17 AM ET

I can't wait for the next edition on which team Favre may or may not want to be on should he in the unlikely event actually return. I hope they get the other 30 teams in before these rumors are completely squashed.

July 4, 2008  10:19 AM ET

I think about 5% of all the rumors posted on PFT ended up being true. That's even a worse track record then here.

July 4, 2008  10:31 AM ET

what a waste of time! No more reading articles on this topic unless it's Favre saying yes or no. I could care less what some websites are "hearing"... people hear a lot of things.

July 4, 2008  10:43 AM ET

If Brett Favre did come back, it'd be to the Packers, and not the Panthers. Most likely, the Panthers will be Matt Moore's team before season's end, anyway. Jake Delhomme is just too inconsistent anymore.

Favre will become the most undying, annoying story in the NFL for the month of July. SportsCenter producers are salivating.

July 4, 2008  11:24 AM ET

"In a related article, the Rock Hill Herald reports that Entertainment Tonight has learned that Elvis will be headlining an All Star Review in Vegas. Other performers will include Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix."

Where's Jim Mora now when we really need him?? Remember his "playoffs?" rant? "Rock Hill Herald? Are you kidding me? The Rock Hill Herald??"

In the meantime, I'm going to go shoot a rodeo. Should be fun!
Riddle: What's the difference between a rodeo and a story on T & R??
Answer: At a rodeo, the bulls**t actually comes from a bull and not a sportswriter!!
Have a great 4th, all! Stay safe!

July 4, 2008  11:26 AM ET

Hey if he wants to return to the NFL let him he is still a good player.

July 4, 2008  11:26 AM ET

C'mon, pro football talk is known to spew out garbage all the time just to try and get views. They are the national enquirer of the sports world.

July 4, 2008  11:44 AM ET

IS PFT.com even at the same level of the national enquirer? lol

He has done all he can in the NFL. I would like to see him go to the CFL or Europe and play. Now that would be fun..
