Pest Avery wore out his welcome

Sean Avery is with his third team since 2006 and has never spent more than two full seasons with any of his three previous clubs. The Rangers made no attempt to re-sign him. "I spent some time trying to figure out why it happened," Avery said. "Why they didn't want me back in New York? It's tough to say." Frankly, Avery is the kind of guy who can only last so long in one place, because sooner or later he's going to drive his teammates and management as crazy as he does the opposition.

Its too bad but i honestly think Sather made the right move here.Four million can be spent better...Naslund for example(although hes a bit soft for my liking).

July 4, 2008  10:24 AM ET

Calling Markus Naslund "a bit soft" is like calling Pamela Anderson a bit chesty.

July 4, 2008  10:27 AM ET

^^^haha

July 4, 2008  10:37 AM ET

I envy the Stars having Avery. They are better right now than they were losing to Detroit. As Brett Hull said, you need guys like Avery to beat Detroit. I look forward to Avery banging Hosebag next year.

I laugh at Tin Man Naslund in NY. He is going to get eaten alive by fans there the moment they realize what they got.

Although some will jump in and say he got 26?? goals last year and X number of points??? BFD.

As the number one centre and captain earning huge $$ that was far from OK.

He has been done since Steve Moore rocked his world.

July 4, 2008  10:42 AM ET

he's coming into a locker room that has a lot of good things going.........heres hoping it stays that way.

July 4, 2008  10:46 AM ET

How log did he sign with Dallas for? Four years? I do hope he and Brett room together again! I wonder who would want out of town first! I think they will both want to leave town at the same time! And ... Modano will want to retire by Christmas!

July 4, 2008  10:50 AM ET

dumb move by the rangers not attempting to sign him....
you need mean, enerygy players like him on your squad

$4 MIL is a joke!
Bret, I thought you were a good GM. Now you're just signing old buddies. Ridiculous.
Avery, I hope that hit in the picture - from whoever it was - really hurt!
No go on mess up an always classy team and get yourself know in Dallas. BTW, you should have gone to San Antonio instead, you;d have a chance to nab Eva Longoria away from Parker! Dallas... not so many hotties in the movies. Looser.

July 4, 2008  11:32 AM ET

A four year deal?
Are you kidding me?
Brett Hull said he thought this was a no-brainer.
He's right, a four year contract with Avery will seem like an eternity. Avery can't figure out why the NYR did not want him back....hahahha
Because you're an idiot Sean...that's why.
LOL at Dallas...have fun boys.

July 4, 2008  11:33 AM ET

Haha (bostongm), although it's impressively low compared to some of the stupid-money that's been thrown around thus far.

Personally, I can't stand him and as a Habs fan, I'm pleased to see him go out west. Good riddance.

July 4, 2008  11:49 AM ET

How long do you guys bet it will be before he wears out his welcome?

July 4, 2008  11:49 AM ET

Look at their win/loss record with Avery and w/out Avery over the past 2 seasons and tell me why they didnt sign him. Also, with Naslund and Redden, they are getting much softer, not tougher as they needed (Orpik, anyone?). Soft is not good in a division with Flyers, Devils, etc

July 4, 2008  11:56 AM ET

Calling Markus Naslund "a bit soft" is like calling Pamela Anderson a bit chesty.
Yes but he did play with the Sedin sisters...that makes him look tough...

July 4, 2008  12:36 PM ET

The big black book of prostitutes did him in.

July 4, 2008  12:48 PM ET

Can't wait to see Holmstrom park his **** in Turco's crease next season. Avery will work the dude over. GO STARS

July 4, 2008  01:21 PM ET

Avery work over Holmstrom? I think not..

July 4, 2008  01:50 PM ET

Avery might work him over but Holmstrom will just take it.

It's the Sisters in Hongcouver that are going to hate Tucker and Avery in the west.

July 4, 2008  01:59 PM ET

Hank, I can hear you salivating from here ..... lol

July 4, 2008  02:16 PM ET

New York got way softer this season. I know Avery was a handful to have in the room, but he competes hard every night. They lost Avery, a physical defenceman in Tyutin and leadership and grit in Shanahan, and replaced it with Naslund, Redden and Zherdev. Huge mistake. They are going to be screaming for leadership and toughness at MSG this year, who will answer the call?
