I am not sure that playing in a Danish league will do Dwayne any more good than playing in the US. I guess he would get the chance to play in the UEFA Cup and possibly the Champions League at some point and time. But if Houston loses him, expect them to drop towards the bottom of the league as far as quality of play will go.

MLS is far better then the Danish league......Danish champions usually get knocked out early in the champions league. you can probably count on 1 hand how many times theyve made it to the group stage if ever....it would be a step backwards for D Ro in my opinion

The Danish league may not be great, but it's still under UEFA. At the age of 30 this may be his last chance to play overseas. He's already won 4 MLS cups so there's really nothing left to prove in MLS. If they pay him a little more than he's making in MLS then why the heck not?? I say go for it DeRo - it's your life man. Go experience that European passion for footy even if only for a couple of seasons.

fact is that DeRo is 30.... not much more he can truely improve his game.... he's solid and should go and collect a paycheck.... from a MLS fan standpoint this would suck for the MLS.... Houston should not trade him, b/c he brings some quality to the league.... as a Fire fan i have to say "good luck abroad DeRo." :D

he should go, he's done enough in MLS and deserves to see what europe is like, plus the chance at the UEFA Cup or CL is something you just can't pass up. Houston will be crap with out him, though.

I think he started his career in europe and i always thought if he wanted to be playing over there he would be. i figure his next team will be tfc.

the only reason he should go abroad is for a paycheck... but in all honesty he's got several good years in the MLS and he's making what, 300k+??

i agree with Guga!, i always expected him to end his career in Canada... especially with BMO expanding to 30k (altho they could fill it regardless)...im sure DeRo would bring in some more fans

I think your overrating the american soccer league. It won??t be a step back to join FC Copenhagen. They were in Champions league last year and won over Manchester united. And also there is much more money in the usa its just in europe they have soccer "soul"

this is 100% a money move and you can't totally blame him. He's worth more than what he is currently paid.
If MLS ever wants the level of play to explode overnight they will make the payrolls high enough to equal or surpass the Scandinavian (and other 3rd tier leagues) payrolls so we can retain more of the talent. It would be the #1 quickest fix for any level of play issues. There are SOO many people who have said they would have stayed here hoping to make it to a 'real' team than go to a Bulgarian backwoods club or other such situation.

Da_guy: you are kinda off. Every Scandinavian league is pretty horrible. It is like the lower tier England teams where it looks more like American Football than soccer. (not saying MLS is La Liga, but it's not nearly as rough and tumble)
As far as FCC beating Man U 1 time...WGAS? Teams that are woefully outclassed beat big boy teams all the time (Rosenborg beating Chelsea last eyar) I wouldn't read too much into it.
Let's face it the 'lure' of Champion's League isn't exactly as huge when you are on a club that is likely to play 1 qualifying match in a 10K stadium in the north of Sweden and then crash out. Not much (if at all) of an upgrade over going to play Saprissa.

P.S. they didn't beat Man U last year. They didn't even make it out of the second Qualifying phase. They beat some team from Israel and then got spanked by Benfica.

sitho is right. I have been following the Danish teams for years and frankly they haven't been very good since the 80s and early nineties after which it seemed to take a dip for the worse. Even in the golden era of Laudrup, Lerby and Elkjaer, very few of the best Danish players bothered to play in Denmark. While I don't see this as a step up in class (the MLS and most Scandanavian soccer are very even if not the Scandies being worse) I think he should still go and collecta paycheck, and maybe get a chance to play UEFA or Champs Lg. He's put in his time in the MLS and has earned a right to go wherever he wants.

Truly a money move for him...but I can't say that I blame him, at 30 years old, multiple MLS championship years. MLS can't attract and maintain high level europeans or overseas players if they can't eventually start paying them what they are worth. Look at the football players salary's......Soccer players have to start get payed a higher salary!!!!
