Moss hauls in NASCAR truck team

Accustomed to making long hauls on the football field, Randy Moss acknowledged he was operating far afield from his chosen area of expertise when it came to owning a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team. But the Patriots wide receiver, despite being new to the sport, said he was prepared to make a long-haul commitment after announcing yesterday at Daytona International Speedway he had purchased a 50 percent stake in David Dollar's Craftsman Truck Series team, Morgan-Dollar Motorsports. Although terms were not disclosed, the team will be renamed Randy Moss Motorsports and will field a yet-to-be-sponsored No. 81 Chevrolet Silverado for driver Willie Allen in the team's debut July 19 at Sparta, Ky. "I'm ready to take this all the way," said Moss, who seized upon an opportunity presented to him by his business partner, Tim Martin, following the Patriots' run to the Super Bowl. "My door's open to any sponsor willing to team up with Randy Moss Motorsports, but at the same time I'm ready to keep this thing going myself," Moss added. "Either way, we're going to be happy and satisfied with what we're trying to develop."

I love the new and the different so I am OK with this.
His actions in the future will determine my outlook during his NASCAR run. If he builds up gradually to cup that would be interesting to see. He has stated that if he has success in truck he would bring in a big money partner like Roush Everham and Petty did and move on up.

Good Luck, Mr. Moss. Many try and few succeed, The Globe article reminds us of Marino, Aikman and Staubach, all football greats that gave Nascar a whirl without much success. Bring your wallet.

Now this I like,,,Now if they can keep the cup drivers out so
they and the rest of the field can make some Money and
points,,,it will be great...Happy 4th of July = Asbel & WhoWho

I agree with you Asbel.
New blood in the sport is always welcome.
I also believe all new drivers and owners should start with the truck/nationwide series before even thinking about the cup series.
Some of these guys try to compete with the big guys and haven't a clue what they have gotten them selfs into.
Happy 4th to everyone!

Moss is apparently a life long fan, so good luck to him. Just so he likes spending money.

Live where?

I'd like to see his driver stop the car right on the track with a lap left .. and just walk off.

You gave yourself away, you aren't in Japan, you like in Arkansas!
Dude, just having fun with you, lighten up.

Viking fans and Raider fans (especially Raider fans) are allowed to bash Randy Moss all they want. They get a free pass. Hopefully they won't get to crazy but after what he did while playing there, bash away. (keep in mind Viking fan he did give you "some" great moments) But he gets a pass from me while in NASCAR until he shows me he is not sincere about the sport.

Happy Fourth of July.
Everybody have a Coke and a smile and enjoy the racing this weekend.

GREAT for NASCAR! I've been a Moss fan since the minnestoa days as well...maybe the truck could be sponsored by Soul Glo!!!

JUST LET YOUR SOOOOOOUL GLOOOOO, BABY!!!

July 4, 2008  06:52 PM ET

Good luck Mr. Moss!

Hopefully he surrounds himself with good people who know the ins and outs of the sport. I know he has some racing experience through his work at the local dirt track level and through a charity that helps inner city children get exposure with racing. I don't know if that will be enough or not. If he is willing to work hard to learn from those around him the team should do fine.

At least he should be able to bring a little more excitement back to the sport from an owner's standpoint. We all know he will not be afraid to speak his mind when necessary. We need a little more of that in the sport nowadays. At least he should show some more spirit than some of the current owners seem to.
