Five players have been charged over alleged match-fixing in last season's home and away Serie A fixtures between Atalanta and relegated Livorno, Italy's football federation (FIGC) said on Friday. Atalanta's Gian Paolo Bellini and former Livorno captain David Balleri have been charged with seeking to fix the results of the games on Dec 23, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and May 4, which Atalanta won 3-2, the FIGC said. Livorno brothers Emanuele and Antonio Filippini, along with team mate Alessandro Grandoni, have also been reported by the federation's prosecutor to the national disciplinary commission for a failure to inform the authorities about the events. The two clubs were also reported to the commission over the behaviour of their players.

gotta love the fuel Serie A adds to the hate of Serie A fire... if guilty i hope the league takes a harsh stance on these guys to at least show the teams that the league means business....

but i dont feel that the team should be punished unless they were involved.... if its just players...

Nawh! They'll just pay off the oficials investigating these "scandals" to make them go away! What else would you expect from the people who invented the fine art of "fixing" things? Par for the course!

Wow, 2008 and we're still looking down on Italians. Thanks for the enlightened attitude.

It's not like anyone has ever had fixing or cheating scandals like American football, basketball or baseball recently and it's not like the Patriots "fixed" thigns to go away. Nope, just those greasy I-Tal-Ians and their broken noses correcting things.

Reddogg99: Easy now, paisan! I don't think there is anything inherently anti-Italian in there. They are simply reporting that there is more possible match fixing, It is a big story especially after what happened in 2006. Also, the Patriots thing did not just "go away" and you will definitely hear calls of them being a "cheater" for years to come.

My Dad is from Vasto, in the Abruzzo region of Italy, came over here when he was 6 years old, so I'm just as protective of my reputation as you are. Except I think you're way off base here. I agree that Italian people are still not the most well looked upon people, but there just isn't anything here.

Hey Spo -- I wasn't referring to the story, but to DCruiser's comments. Sorry about that. Right on -- MKSP4EVA. Only North American country with a chance to win the World Cup is Mexico.

Of course what do you expect from a country where organized crime is the no. 1 business with an estimated $125 billion, 7% of its GDP. The question is when isn't corruption happening when there is blatant disregard for rules and even policies, a country were everybody does favor for there friends and loved ones irrespective of the rules. But you know, typical italians, they would scream at the outset of the allegations about how they would change the system but when the "brou ha" dies down they would go back to implementing nothing and simply sweep it under the rug. In italy just like there spanish cousins, you can get away with anything as long as you know anybody.

Also, since this clubs are small clubs they might come down a bit harsher than say a Juve or AC Milan, but at the end of the day, nobody learns there lesson except not being caught again.

Sorry guys! I like Italians, pizza, spaghetti and, especially lasagna! I also like Caruso and Pavarotti. And Vivaldi's "Le quattro stagioni" is still my favorite! I even like the Pope! But, we do get a bit nervous when we hear about Italians "fixing" things ever since big Al used to run around on this side of the pond "fixing" things in the Chicago area. I guess it's an involuntary reflex, that's all.
