Source: Spurs lead Maggette race
Posted: Saturday July 05, 2008 08:44AM ET
Three days into the NBA's free agency period, Corey Maggette is still talking to teams and weighing his options. It appears the free-agent swingman is heading into the holiday weekend a little bit closer to becoming a Spur than he was before the week began. A source close to the negotiations said Thursday that, though no deal is imminent, talks between the Spurs and Maggette are serious and the interest is mutual. The Spurs are believed to have offered Maggette a multi-year deal, starting with their $5.8 million mid-level exception. Maggette became an unrestricted free agent this week when he opted out of the final year of his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Magette spaghetti! The Spurs should be trading Parker to LA, where he wants to play, bring in Lamar Odom and a draft pick or two, and attract a solid point guard like Hinrich.

Report Offensive CommentWhat a foolish comment Dog. Parker is all Star, the rest involved in your trade are also-runs.
Coming back to the topic, I'm not sure why celtics aren't front runners. They have the same money Spurs are offering. Unless he just prefers west.

Report Offensive CommentYeah Dog what are you thinkin'? But Magette to the Spurs makes more sense than going to the Celts.

Report Offensive CommentMaggette to the Celtics is not the best move. Celtics need pieces rather a player of Maggette status. Spurs on the other hand need the scoring of Maggette. It's the defense of Maggette that is in question.
Spurs Lineup
C Oberto or Mahimi
PF Duncan
SF Bowen
SC Maggette
PG Parker
6th Man MANU

Location, location, location. He won't have to dig through 2 feet of snow to get to practice in San Antonio.

Report Offensive CommentSA is a perfect fit for ANY PLAYER who wants to play with a winner.
Magette though would bring a dimension to SA that they haven't had in the Duncan era- a small forward who has athleticism

Report Offensive CommentI think Maggette fits better with the Spurs. If Boston gets him, damn!

Report Offensive CommentIs it just me or is it not a fact that "pound for pound" NBA players are the most overpaid athletes in sports. Maybe it's horse jockeys.......lol.
DEVO (SPECTRE) | 07/05/08, 10:19 AM
Report Offensive CommentIf SA could snag Maggette, it would allow Manu to come off the bench, where he plays better anyway. This could help them beat the Lakers next year even if they have Bynum back.

Report Offensive CommentI think even with him they are to old............ him in boston is ok but not necessary his defense is bad so we dont need him

Report Offensive CommentDog "solid point guard like Hinrich." are you nuts? Hinrich is eh at bast thus the reasoning the Bulls were thinking about trading him anyway. Maggette should go to the spurs although I dislike them. The Celts have won and thats over now their hunger has diminished substantially while the Spurs always want to win but their as old as a Ford Model-T.

Report Offensive CommentWho the Celtics need is Chris Duhon to be thier backup PG not Maggete.

Report Offensive CommentAlso DjHeat you sound like all the Celtic haters who doubted them in the Playoffs. Winning a Title breeds greed for more not a lack of hunger. The Celtics and thier League best dEFENSE will be back along with an improved Rondo jumpshot.

Ummm...the spurs are too old? Tony Parker is only 26, and Manu is 31, which isn't ancient by any means. Duncan is 32. So unless you weren't watching when the Celtics just won with Ray Allen (33), PJ Brown (39), KG (32) and Sam Cassell (38), how are you gonna tell me the Spurs are too old.
And before you try and tell me that I am a homer for the Spurs, let me tell you I live in Memphis.

Has to be one of the dumbest comments I have ever read. How in the hell is Hinrich more of solid point then Parker? Unreal!

Report Offensive CommentThe Rockets need to make a run at Magette. He is just the type of player they need a wing that can be another go to scorer while TMac is on the bench and Yao is hurt. The have the mid level exception, a young nucleus, and Houston is a good market place. I think he is the type of player that can get the Rockets over the top. But theses are my Rockets management seems to never get it right

Report Offensive CommentSpurs should go after Josh Smith. Surrounded by the right veterans (Parker, Manu, Duncan).......................this kid could develop into something more than just an athletic swingman
