Nuggets waiting for bargains?

Could the Nuggets end up replacing one Anthony with another? Two sources close to the situation said Thursday the Nuggets aren't immediately targeting re-signing free-agent point guard Anthony Carter. One of the sources said Anthony Johnson is another free-agent point the Nuggets are eyeing as a possible replacement. But the belief is the Nuggets, deep into the luxury tax, might not make a quick move on a point guard when the signing period starts Wednesday. If they go the free-agent route, they might wait until prices go down. Johnson, 33, made $2.86 million last season, finishing with Sacramento after a February trade from Atlanta. He averaged 5.6 points and 3.8 assists for the season and has career marks of 5.7 points and 2.9 assists. Other teams said to be interested in Johnson include Cleveland, New York, Miami, Orlando, Phoenix and Utah.

Bargain hunting for a bargain team. No playoffs next year

July 5, 2008  10:13 AM ET

I agree.....
'bargains' aren't getting you closer to a title.

Getting the right COACH was a more pressing matter- they didn't
breaking up the Iverson/ Melo defensive juggernaut was important....they didn't
tryign to dump some of your CAP was important....they didn't

good luck

No need to waste big money. The Clippers will replace the Nuggets in next years playoffs anyway.

No defense no playoffs. they are a good offensive team, but with no defense they will neve do anything in the west

IT'S LOVELY....Tricking-off a 24-point lead to lose and getting blown-out by 39 points precludes me from finishing that sentence. HA!

July 5, 2008  12:51 PM ET

what about trading the other anthony, melo?

July 5, 2008  02:12 PM ET

They should consider some trades and see what they can get for Martin, Kleiza, and Smith. They could try to see if they can grab a point guard, but they would need a guy who could thrive without scoring and who could play D.

I see them possibly being an 8th seed in the West if they manage to grab a guy like Hinrich

"see what they can get for Martin, Kleiza, and Smith"

- Martin- NOTHING- older, injury prone terrible contract
- Kleiza - he actually showed some HEART- I would keep him
- Smith- I personally wouldn't want him on my team......but he could be of value to a team in need of a little youth/athleticism....say the spurs

Karl waited for a bargain on that sweater.

the only Anthony they need to get rid of is Carmelo.
