Tucker High senior Manny Atkins, a member of the school's Class AAAA 2007 boys' basketball championship team, has verbally committed to sign with Virginia Tech in November. The 6-foot-6 guard/forward chose the Hokies over Georgia Tech and Marquette. Last season, he averaged 20.5 points and 10.4 rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the field.

How did GA Tech let this guy get away? I live less than a mile fromTucker H.S.; Tucker is about 15 to 20 minutes from GA Tech's main campus. Maybe the guy wanted to get away from home and avoid the pressure of playing for the home team and put some room between him and some of his homeboys. Which in today's college athlete's climate, might not be a bad idea.

That is his approach to recruiting... pointing to his head and saying THINK ABOUT IT. Virginia is for Lovers, umm.... Georgia just sucks

Be leery when you read AJC articles about Georgia Tech. The paper is so severely slanted to be pro-UGAg that you never get the whole story. Mr. Atkins was interested in Georgia Tech and Marquette, but that does not mean those schools wanted him. What the AJC didn't bother to add is that Atkins never had an offer from GT to consider.
