Chris Duhon has agreed to a two-year deal with the Knicks, paving the way for the franchise to cut ties with Stephon Marbury, their troublesome starting point guard. Whether Marbury will be traded, bought out of his contract or simply waived is yet to be determined. But people with close ties to Donnie Walsh, the team president, and Coach Mike D'Antoni consider Marbury's departure a near certainty.

As bad as Marbury is, in terms of his contract and contribution to the team, if you're considering Chris Duhon, a back-up that can't shoot, as a solution to your point guard problem, you're in over your head. Walsh hasn't proven to be any better than Isiah.

WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS HOW DID HE BECOME 20 MIL A YEAR GUY. MARBURY WAS ALWAYS AVERAGE TO ME.

rofl

Anyone is better than **** Marbury. Hell, I saw some toddler drooling on a basketball down the street. Looked like a team player though, I would rather have him than Marbury.

Marbury may florish under this new system... duhon is a backup thats all he will ever be they have a better chance with starbury than him

July 5, 2008  10:51 AM ET

This scenario couldn't be scripted any better. Get rid of one problem child, and reunite Curry and Crawford with a career backup that misses practices, and shootarounds, "oversleeps," and takes off to attend his college games without permission while the team has no idea of his whereabouts, and a career 38% shooter. Sounds like a playoff team to me.

July 5, 2008  10:55 AM ET

Starbury is not even a star he is a 3 point shooter thats it send him 2 the kings for all i care!

July 5, 2008  10:59 AM ET

starbury is better than duhon point blank.....but thats just more dumb moves that ny will make. we thought it was isaiah we will learn its ny period.

We are rebuilding. People forget that, we really are a terrible team and there is so much work to do. Marbury who has skills does not have what it takes to lead a team and he has proven that. It's addition by subtraction. He's getting older and is breaking down with injuries now. It over for him and his ego will never allow him to play like a good backup and team player. Plus he acts like a flake. We are starting over people get used to it.

July 5, 2008  11:05 AM ET

"starbury is better than duhon point blank." He has better skills BUT Star is to full of himself he is a point guard that thinks he still playing at Ruckers. He wants the ball and shoots it first always. He isn't AI back in philly this is an NBA where the Bryants and James rule the court and PG's need to act accordingly.

July 5, 2008  11:08 AM ET

First off, lets all stop calling him Starbury... He has never been a star, and when he was a very good player he was still a cancer to every team he has ever been on. Duhon makes sense over him because he plays Defense. Look at all the best teams, they all have a guy who doesn't take alot of shots and doesn't score alot of points.

And Big Daddy, until you get your first pay check, don't say we, your not a knick and you never will be

Marbury is a fierce competitor, who's attitude can be taken the wrong way. I think New York should part ways with him while they could still get some value for him. Marbury's agent might want to start aligning his client with teams like Chicago, Cleveland, Miami, Orlando, Detroit, or even Boston. Imagine Marbury and Garnett on the same team again. Doc Rivers will be able to have some control on "Starbury", and I'm sure th3e fans in New England would love to have the boys in green repeat as champions.

I say he goes to Cleveland and he has good, inexpensive shoes & apparel.

July 5, 2008  11:26 AM ET

IT'S LOVELY....Tricking-off a 24-point lead to lose and getting blown-out by 39 points precludes me from finishing that sentence. HA!

July 5, 2008  11:35 AM ET

Cleveland? doubt it, but maybe a marbury for Szczerbiak ans Snow. It works cap-wise. All of them are expiring contracts next year. I still doubt Cleveland wants this guy paired with Lebron, but they do need help...

July 5, 2008  11:53 AM ET

If Marbury is healthy and willing to humble himself, he can restore his career. He is 6-2 or 6-3 who can play the one or the two can help a few teams once he is bought out. He is an upgrade over House and Cassel in Boston, He could go to the Cavs and give Lebron a proven second option. The Spurs need someone to spell Parker and to keep the game afloat. An intriguing team is the Jazz. The Jazz lost to LA because the lack of back court depth. After DWill, they have nothing else at both guard positions. He would be a great fit at the two and give the Jazz a scorer they lacked at that position.

Cutting Marbury is absoultely the right move. The locker room needs cleanup (that might mean half the team, but got to start somewhere!!)
I think Walsh has already made it clear that Duhon is a "stop gap" PG. They aren't looking at him as a franchise changing player. I'm no fan of Duhon, but given the current situation, I'll say - Not a bad move.

July 5, 2008  12:25 PM ET

Marbury is a very good player when given the ball and not ask as to think. The CAVS would be a fit for Starbury.

There is a reason why every team that Marbury has been associated with, got better AFTER he left. He's a drain. Maybe you've forgotten the time he already spent with KG--when he actually got pissed off because his contract wasn't equally as lucrative. None of the teams you mention want him. He's been shopped all year--no takers. Hmmm--I wonder why.

Good riddance

I'd love to see his Steve & Barry discount shoe no playing arse try the same antics in Italy. I guess you could say he was Starburied on the Knicks bench. :-)
