Rangers GM: No room for Jagr
Upon leaving the Siberian town when he finished the NHL-less 2004-05 season there, Jaromir Jagr vowed to one day return to Omsk. He just hoped that day wouldn't come as quickly as Friday. However, having taken several hours to collect his thoughts after being informed by GM Glen Sather that there was no more room for him on the Rangers, Jagr early yesterday morning signed a letter of intent to accept the two-year, $25 million offer from Avangard-Omsk that had been awaiting his signature for weeks. "I always believe that everything happens for the best," Jagr said. "When one door closes, another one opens."

Hey, Jagr! If you liked Siberia, you'll love it in Edmonton! They'll fix a suite for you in the hotel at West Edmonton Mall so you never have to go outside all winter long, exept to get to Rexall Place on game days or to the Airport for road trips. They'll even schedule all the practices at the ice ring in the mall for your convenience!
Forget Siberia! You can always retire there, if you want! Come to Edmonton!

Sadly this great talent is out of the NHL. Sure fire HOF'er no doubt. This guy was one of the best one-on-one players the NHL has ever known. It was great watching you Jagr. Have fun playing in Russia. Seriously.

Guys, let's cut Jagr some slack.
He may have put a monkey on his back when he became greedy and went to the Caps, but he's been a very good player all his NHL career (9th all-time scorer, almost got another MVP 2 years ago).
Remember he's from Europe and still has all his family there. I'm not sure he goes to Russia only for Money. BTW, when you see the type of players Russia produces (Ovie, Datsiuk, Kovalchuk,...), it's gotha be good playing in their league too.

Jagr was outstanding for the Rangers in the playoffs and they don't have anyone who will fill that role. Regardless of whether he was a jerk in negotiations, they are definitely not better for cutting him loose and isn't it the GMs job to improve the team?

Sather, you should have traded him at the deadline when he had value. Now he walks and your left with nothing.

He had strength and talent and still had skill, judging by last year's playoffs. He had a sense of loyalty and history and kept a memory for 1968 and the Russian invasion and repression of Eastern Europe for years. The rap was that he was a selfish and apparently immature player that Caps and Rangers played up to and failed to augment, leverage and develop well. Ranger and Caps fans should feel disappointed and used....but most aren't that smart.
I wonder if he will wear #68 while playing for the Russians or take a page from someone else's book and "refine his position"?
