Senators want to acquire defenseman

The Senators appear close to acquiring a defenseman. Two league executives told Sun Media yesterday that Senators GM Bryan Murray could have a trade for a blueliner worked out in the next couple of days. The whisper among NHL executives is Murray was busy working the phones yesterday with offers on the table for Sharks defenseman Kyle McLaren and Ducks blueliner Mathieu Schneider.

Burke might move Schneider since Nieds is back. But he also knows that Nieds should not be back next year and he'll need a puck-mover.
Blake could fit in for McLaren, but again, that's only for a limited time.
Question is: trade these two for a character player like Chris Neil or be wise and think future....

Report Offensive CommentThese guys need forwards more than they need D.(to me anyways). They're essentially a ONE line team. They have a bad goalie as well. I dont see them making the play-offs.

Report Offensive CommentThey used to have a pretty good defense not long ago...Murray is an idiot!
The Leafs now have 9 D-men under contract plus Luke Schenn...I would think a deal of sorts will be imminent soon to build up the forward lines for the Blue & White.

Report Offensive CommentYes,it does seem like the Leafs are going to make a trade. McCabe doesnt seem to want to anywhere though. Who's next in line? Kubina? Thats 5 million off the books. Toronto needs a center. Kubina for a center seems plausible. I wonder if a 2nd line center is too much to ask for Kubina?

Report Offensive Commentbostongm, if Kaberle becomes available, there's gonna be a lot of calls.
I sure hope Maloney lied when he said Phoenix is done dealing. Honestly, we got Jokinen and that's good but I doubt Hale and Sauer are good enough to fill the void created by Ballard and Boynton. Our fowards have good defensive instincts though (Hanzal especially), but it's still a pretty porous team.

Report Offensive Commentif murray trades away young talent for kyle "pilon" mclaren that will officially make him the dumbest gm in the league... now that jfj is gone the title is up for grabs.... murray looks to be the front runner....

Report Offensive Commentmurray should have tried for rivet... a defense first grind it out d-men.... add alittle grit and he can move the puck enough to get the job done... hed be good with lee
sensfan | 07/06/08, 02:14 PM
Report Offensive Commentlol @ sensfan.... no doubt, McLaren is a bum. He's never been fast and he takes a lot of penalties... Jim Rutherford is probably calling Murray to see what else he wants to give away...
Trading Kaberle is the Leafs best chance at getting something valuable back that can help now. They need a top-6 forward before another 5mil D-man... too bad poop dick McCabe won't just let them trade him though, that would make life so much easier.

Report Offensive CommentWait a minute, Murray had a really good defenseman,
Yeah I think his name was Wade Redden and if I remember correctly Redden liked it in ottawa and probably wouldv'e resigned there until Murray Stared treating him like a jerk.
So now the team needs another D- man and are despirately thin up front ! I think ottawa needs to try and trade for a General Manager more than a defence man !

Report Offensive CommentCall it Karma, if you will, but Murray is paying for backing out on the deal he shook hands on with Lowe at last year's draft for either Wade Redden or an unnamed forward.
Murray left Lowe twisting in the wind as Kevin was on his way to the podium. The trade was suppossed to be announced, but Murray backed out, and left Lowe just standing there. That moment of idecision bit him in the arse last year and it will bite him again!
At this year's draft again, he had the chance to get Pitkanen but, inexplicably, he backed out at the last minute! Now, he is desperate enough to make a deal to get ... who? Mathieu Schneider? Schneider's got nothing left. He is done!

they need one quality veteran defenceman: they never replaced Chara and Wedden went flat last year
they need a GOOD 2nd line forward: stillman wasn't enough
they need a goalie: Gerber is milquetoast, not a stanley cup goalie by a long shot
YODA | 07/07/08, 03:13 AM
Report Offensive CommentShamrock, the trade you mention also includes, Joe Corvo a really good D-man. How dumb can GM Murray be and a pretty stupid one to. You trade away your #2 D-man in Corvo, right before the trade deadline and don't resign Redden your #1. Now Murray is actively trying to trade for a good D-Man, the jokes on you and you need to be fired.
Now the trade is even more idiotic, that Stillman signed elsewhere and think Commodore also gone. The Hurricanes got the better of the Sens on this one and read they wanted Corvo to get a scoring D-man.
