Will Martinez pitch in 2009?

The brain cancer his 78-year-old father, Pablo, is fighting and required hospitalization for Thursday night in the Dominican Republic is weighing on his mind, but Pedro Martinez will never use that as an excuse for his poor pitching for the New York Mets. The former Red Sox ace says he's healthy, and if the Mets are to turn their horror show of a first half into a prosperous second half, Mart??nez is aware he must be a huge part of it. Martinez wants to pitch after this season, the final year of a four-year, $54 million contract he signed when he left Boston. The way the Mets are going, it might not be in New York.

As a Red Sox fan, I hope for the best for Pedro. His family is weighing on him heavily, but I'd like to see a successful finish to his season and in 5-7 years when he is in the HOF with a Sox hat on, it will be a beautiful ending.

If I were Pedro, I would take the money and run. Go back to Dominican Republic where you are respected and appreciated in full, give back to the people who need it most, be with your family, and play ball perhaps in the leagues there, and away from the unappreciative cess pools of the NYC media market.

You were one of the best to ever pitch Pedro, but it might be best to make this your last year. You had a run with Boston the likes of which hasn't been seen since Koufax. Leave us and yourself with those memories.

I didn't even realize Pedro was born when his dad was a teenager,

I am a huge N Y Met fan ! I lived in N Y for over 40 years . I have just relocated to Massachsetts a few months ago . I can't tell you all how much I love it here. How ever that makes no difference , I just felt with my comment here it might be worth mentioning.
Pedro is a Great pitcher !! I liked him before N Y , I like him now. No matter where you are from TALENT IN TALENT !
He's got it ! I will miss him, M L B will miss him ! But I too think it is probably a good time to say good bye .
Who cares about the media grind ? You don't leave something you love for any reasons but your own. I believe the fans will respect that , more than anything else. Anything !! Perdo Martinez - no matter where he is , no matter where he is from , no matter where he goes will have the respect of MILLIONS of people from all over because he has EARNED it !! Personally and Professionally !!

Anybody got a fork? I think Pedro is done.

I hope he pitches in 2009. The Yankees always seem to do well against him.

will he pitch in 2008 ? maybe he can win one more time then retire so no one will think he is a "coward." didn't like him in montreal or boston. he hasn't done well for my mets, only delaying the call up of potential talent. that said, he was a good, maybe great pitcher but his day is done.
