Although restricted free agent Monta Ellis' interest in the Heat had Ellis' camp exploring that option, the Warriors need him after losing Baron Davis.

they do huh?

He shoots a high percentage at his position,
I am sure no one will let this guy go if he is on their team.

BTW, the heat needs a PG more than a SG, not sure if this guy is able to play the point.

July 6, 2008  09:30 AM ET

And I think the Heat need someone that can shoot the 3s

July 6, 2008  10:17 AM ET

"Why Ellis won't wind up in Miami"....because he's not stupid. Ellis has the chance to be to the Warriors what Dwayne Wade is to the Heat. The Warroirs made a huge mistake by letting Baron Davis walk, but certainly they have something else in mind. If not, Chris Mullin should be out of a job. Either way, Ellis is in the best place for him right now.

I'll have Monta's posse talk to my posse and see if we can work something out !!!
Sincerely, Danny Ainge

Warriors will give as much money as it takes to keep Ellis. The only way he is leaving the Bay Area is if he demands a sign-and-trade, a-la Joe Johnson.

Hllywd, I don't think Ellis will ever be Dwayne Wade-like, but I do agree that is the importance he will hold in the organization moving forward, if he stays.

July 6, 2008  12:28 PM ET

He will end up with the Warriors

July 6, 2008  12:46 PM ET

Noam is correct, he won't be a Dwayne Wade, but he will be the best player for the Warriors. If the Warriors get Brand he will have a good post player with him. But if not we will see the Warriors in the lottery next year.
In another case, it would be good for him if will be with Miami since he will get a a better chance for the play off or even getting the ring with the Miami lineup with him. Ellis, Wade, Marion, Beasly, and a complimentary center. I know he can play the guard position because he has done thet with his current team.

That's all I was talking about. They are different type players, but Ellis has an opportunity to become the face of the franchise.

July 6, 2008  01:19 PM ET

Ellis is a good player, underrated and now people will see what he can really do because they have no franchise player, he will become that player.

July 6, 2008  01:38 PM ET

but if he becomes franchise player they wont do that good

July 6, 2008  01:47 PM ET

heat dont need ellis they need a real point guard

July 6, 2008  01:53 PM ET

Ellis will need to think twice if he would stay with the Warriors with their situation their in. Getting Brand is the best thing that could happen for them.

Brand is thinkng of Money or getting his best chance of a ring. Just imagine LA Clippers with BDavis, Mobley, Thorton, Brand, Kaman they have also good reserves.

July 6, 2008  02:12 PM ET

Just can't wait for next year can ya (NBA sports writers of America)...the season just ended a few weeks ago, and now here we go again. I suppose you need to save your job, unless of course your a real sports writer and know more than one sport.

July 6, 2008  03:51 PM ET

Ellis is wanted by many teams i agree & warriors will do all they can 2 match n e salary offers of others teams including my Heaters but we shall wait & see what happens.

July 6, 2008  03:54 PM ET

Ellis needs to ask for a big contract now.

July 6, 2008  04:23 PM ET

"Ellis has an opportunity to become the face of the franchise"

maybe face of a franchise.....
but I don't think he is a 'franchie' player

A big contract? yeah- he's good.....but
He isn't worth max dollars
If you max dollar him- you wil be tuck int he future....

Look what th eknicks did with Alle Houston years ago-
is a part of the reason the knicks are where they are now

July 6, 2008  04:36 PM ET

the heat could not resign jason williams and rickey davis then they could sign monta ellis to a long term deal worth 12 or 13 million i think they could get dooling and mario chalmbers will suprise everybody i think he is a rondo type of player of not better

and if they sign him he and wade could be the best back court in the nba and the heat will have beasley and marion up front

wade will be wade of 2006 with a better shooting team which he never had (28 and 7 ast 7 reb)
marion will put up solid numbers or offense and defense
beasley is a better player then durant stronger and better post up player but he wont put up durants numbers because he is no even the second option on the team (16 and 8 rebounds)
if the get monta ellis the heat will be un stopable he could put up (18 and 6 assists) that would be great

July 6, 2008  04:37 PM ET

duh this isnt even news

July 6, 2008  04:37 PM ET

Warriors have a streak of drafting players out of no-where who become mid-level superstars - like Latrell, Gilbert, and now Monta.
