Lakers waiting out Vujacic, Turiaf

The Lakers continue to take part in a slow-speed chase, waiting to see whether Sasha Vujacic and Ronny Turiaf receive offers from other teams that would price the restricted free agents out of the Lakers' comfort zone. Last week, the Lakers made one-year qualifying offers to Vujacic for $2.6 million and Turiaf for $1 million, though both players are seeking longer-term deals worth more money. They are each trying to bring a signed offer sheet from another team to the Lakers, who will then have seven days to match.

If they only have to pay 2.6 and 1 mil for them, that is a great deal. We;ll see what happens!

July 6, 2008  11:19 AM ET

man that sucks for both of 'em, if nobody tries to offer them bigger contracts..another smart move by kupchak to wait it out..

July 6, 2008  12:01 PM ET

wooow i would think Turiaf is worth a lot more than just 1m, given how much more some scrubs make in this league. Vujacic's 2.6 is prolly par

July 6, 2008  12:19 PM ET

Yeah! If guys like Jerome James, Tim Thomas, Mikki Moore and Bobby Simmons earns more than Turiaf, then he desreves to be re-evaluated. He probably should get at least $2M.

July 6, 2008  12:26 PM ET

he is hella good how bout $5 million

July 6, 2008  12:35 PM ET

I would give Sasha Vujacic up to $5 million, but I wouldn't pay Turiaf more than $1.5 per year. I think Vujacic has tons of potential to be a great offensive anchor for the Lakers.

I really am partial to Vujacic. He finally got a descent season and will improve but my biggest beef is about Turiaff. He is way undervalued. He can play 20-28 minutes per game. Blocks Shots, has a 20 foor jumper, can score underneath and is a monster in rebounding. While players similiar to him in Gooden, Kmart, KThomas, Haslem make anywhere from 30-80 mil for about 7 years Turiaff deserve much more then 1 mil per year. Vujacic is sort of a dime a dozen player while Turiaff is once in 7 year player (my opinion) so I would set my priority on signing Turiaff. The problem is that he is a restricted player and nobody will offer him a contract because they know Lakers will match. Turiaff gave his heart to the Lakers and I think that they should reward him.

Oh and one more thing about Turiaff - if Walton is making 6 mil per year Turiaff should at least get half.

July 6, 2008  01:35 PM ET

Don't make the same mistake of signing players like Walton to a long term deal. Walton just disappeared in the playoffs. These guys remind me of Deavan George and Slava Medevenkovic whom the lakers said that they really needed to resign, but ended up to be wash out signings who didn't improve the ream any bit.

Turiaff is charismatic great teammate and energy ball of the bench. Sounds like I have a man crush on him but I dont, just think that he is worth much more then he is being offered.

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD LAKERS GAVE KWAME 27 MIL FOR 3 YEARS

Agree about Vujacic BUT NOT on Turiaff

July 6, 2008  01:47 PM ET

The Turiaf offer is ridiculously low, but business is business. I would imagine his agent has to run with the ball here and drive up his value to other teams. Forcast: both will remain Lakers and eventually sign Walton like deals.

July 6, 2008  02:00 PM ET

Turiaf isn't only the biggest cheer leading ball of energy in the game, he also contributes. This guy has a heart for the game. I hope the Lakers don't deflate him with this. To us $1M is a lot of money, but in the NBA, it's unheard of. That could seriously take the wind out of his sails. I say at least double would be the right thing to do.

Waltin is still on the team?? LOL. Didn't see him in the playoffs

July 6, 2008  03:02 PM ET

walton, i meant

July 6, 2008  03:53 PM ET

No worries, ESPN, Waltin or Walton, he is overpaid and can't play!!!! Amazing how sports announcers continue to talk how valuable he is to the Lakers offense. I swear sometimes they are mistakenly talking about the Senior.

Turiaf is outrageously undervalued. He is a very good back-up for Gasol with a defensive mindset. We all know Gasol can't play what. Lakers have a problem with their Cap but they still shouldn't lowball a player they obviously need and can use. Other teams will offer a big guy who is a good presence on the bench, on the floor and defends, blocks shots and rebounds.

sasha might get mid-level $ form some team.....
turiaf ain't getting much

I would NOT match a full mid-level for sasha-
\they need to use the $ on a Power forward who has a little skill,
but mostly has some TOUGHNESS
