Jonas Frogren was Born To Run ... all the way to the Air Canada Centre. Overwhelmed at the prospect of potentially soon wearing blue-and-white, the Swedish defenseman celebrated his seemingly imminent arrival to the Maple Leafs by attending a Bruce Springsteen concert in Gothenberg yesterday. While Maple Leafs general manager Cliff Fletcher said last night there were still "issues to be ironed out," Frogren indicated he was closing in on a deal with the Leafs. Frogren confirmed a financial agreement had been reached with Farjestad, his Swedish elite league team, releasing him from his existing contract. Sweden sources said the agreement was worth at least $200,000.

It was $300,000, and he paid it out of his own pocket. However, he's expected to get that amount as a sign-on, and a $750,000 per year contract, for.. what was it.. 2 years I think.

Thanks for the "real" story Dash. Anything else you can add about the guy?

Pretty easy to figure out why this guy Frogren...wouldn't want to sign with the Habs.

Ah yes, but the Leafs have been given the Finger.

Baun-ded, not really.. he's a 3rd tier defenseman, but could easily be a 2nd tier if he'd had a coach that would trust him and give him confidence. He's a defensive-first kind of guy who's first pass is above average. He's not afraid to dish out a few good hits here and there, or to get his hands dirty. He's very consistent and gives his best in every shift, but he's the kind of guy you don't really notice. No highlight hits or sparkling offensive rushes. He's well worth the money though.

hahaha. I love the leafs and the way they taunt there fans! I can't remember the last time they signed a big name talented player to their team. Instead they throw around money and force their fans to convince themselves that they have aquired great players like Finger and Frogen even though no one really knows who they are! I can hear the leaf fans now! Yeah, yippie! We got Finger and Frogen! The Stanley Cup is ours baby!!!

For long suffering Leaf fans sake, I hope this guy is worth the trouble. With the ongoing Sundin saga, you'd think Toronto is suffering from Sweede overload by now!

Is Ron Wilson that guy from SAW 3?
