Report: Weis projects 9-12 wins

Blue and Gold Illustrated reports that Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis, coming off a 3-9 season, is "privately projecting anywhere from nine to 12 victories this year." "The only regular-season game in which Notre Dame figures to be a serious underdog is the finale at USC, so Weis could conceivably have an 11-0 team heading out there if everything comes together. At that point, anything's possible."

Weis should have said, "I'm predicting anywhere between 1 to 12 wins."

Not going to happen, but thanks for that Irish-colored view thru those shamrock shades you must be wearing when you watch that team practice.

Would be interesting to see ND have another losing season just to see what ND and it's faithful react. Will they keep him or fire him?

July 6, 2008  11:08 AM ET

This "story" is taken out of context. Blue and Gold Illustrated is only "reporting"
hearsay, and any coach that thinks his team would only win 5 or 6 games a year should get fired!

The real story is the detroit free press has nothing better to report on. I guess they're tired of talking about RR & WVU & the 4 million dollar scam.

If you look at the games ND plays this year, 8 or 9 wins is not that hard.

July 6, 2008  11:08 AM ET

what is he supposed to say...we are going to lose 9 again?thi is not news. this is what every coach says at preseason banquets.

July 6, 2008  11:22 AM ET

If you look at the ND schedule ANY year, 8 to 9 years is not only *possible*, but *probable*.

That's why a record like last year's was so devastating.

July 6, 2008  11:22 AM ET

Good that he's already predicting a losing season. Way to go coach!

July 6, 2008  11:26 AM ET

weis should have his head looked at if he thinks his team is winning 9-12 games.....wake up weis ... your dreamin

July 6, 2008  11:31 AM ET

I think the real question is - when was the last time he was able to see his own ****?

All of those games ND could be the favorite or a slight underdog in. I think ND will win 8 games by being upset by one of those teams not named Navy. ND has gotten a lot better. The offensive line was out of position last year. Horrible coaching on that part. Stewart is back at guard and Sam Young is at right tackle, where both of them belong. The #1 recruiting class in the nation will help. Robert Hughes is an absolute stud. Duval Kamara and Golden Tate both have improved. The secondary is tough. I'm worried about the front 7, but I'm sure the rest of the team will play well.

He better say that, and it better happen, or else....YOU'RE FIRED.....maybe.

July 6, 2008  11:51 AM ET

I believe this guy - he probably has the best consumer camcorder. Or professional grade?

July 6, 2008  11:58 AM ET

I've never been a ND fan but I do think Weis is a good coach. He will have this team winning again and maybe even playing for a title soon. He's been on mop up duty since he replaced Willingham. It takes time and least 4 years to get the players you want that are capable to understand your system. It may or may not happen this year but he'll get it turned around...he certainly has in recruiting.

SDSU... UM... MSU... Purdue... Stanford... UNC... Wash... Pitt... BC... Navy... SU... USC

This really is a pretty soft schedule. To suggest ND will run the table is, obviously ridiculous. I could maybe see ND pulling off nine wins if a lot of things roll their way... On the other hand, I could also easily see them LOSING six or seven if a lot of things don't roll their way.

July 6, 2008  12:23 PM ET

I'll belive it when I see it! Who do you think will win the game when they play Michigan?

July 6, 2008  12:24 PM ET

I'll belive it when I see it! lol Who do you think will win the game when they play U of Michigan?

July 6, 2008  12:27 PM ET

Get real. He will gone next year.
11-0 get real

July 6, 2008  12:50 PM ET

Is his being overweight that much of an issue? Seriously, just drop it. If ND Can't beat UM this year, then it will never happen.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahaha. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Whew! I have not laughed that hard in years. Thank you, Chuckie Cheeseburger.

And soft schedule? Like last year's was some sort of trial-by-fire? Service academies and Duke, with 2-3 real games. I could personally go 9-3 every year with their schedule. So the 9 wins is Chuck saying that he should win against the bottom-feeders (yeah, really courageous there. Of course he is overlooking the fact that ND IS a bottom feeder). And 11 or 12? Right. I guess His Royal Fatness finally had the stroke.
