Did Welker rip former Patriot teammate?

At a football camp for kids held last weekend in his home state of Oklahoma, Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker was asked about New England losing cornerback Asante Samuel, who signed a six-year, $57 million deal with the Eagles on the first day of free agency. "Asante's a great player, so it hurts not to have a guy like that. But then again, it's part of the business of the game," Welker said. "He chose money over championships, and that's the way it goes sometimes." Sure, the Patriots are overwhelming Super Bowl favorites, but it's not as if Samuel will be backpedaling for big bucks for a team with no shot at Super Bowl XLIII (see: Dolphins, Miami). The Eagles, coming off an 8-8 season, have one of the game's best running backs in Brian Westbrook, a good coaching staff, led by Andy Reid, and legitimately harbor NFC title aspirations as long as five-time Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb stays healthy.

They have Mr. Chunky soup at QB for a few games each year as well. Wonder if he will play reciever too, they need help there if he honestly thinks they have a shot at the Superbowl.

Question : "Did Welker rip ex-Patriot?"

Answer: No, he did not. Next question.

If that was him taking a shot, he was firing blanks.

Someone's trying to start something. No harm, no foul.

Settle this like men, in the showers!

Patiots are Super Bowl favorites?

July 6, 2008  09:38 AM ET

All of my friends think this is the Dolphins' year, for sure.

"and legitimately harbor NFC title aspirations as long as five-time Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb stays healthy."

So, in other words, they have no chance, and Samuel took the money over the championships. Thanks for clearing that up, Boston Globe.

Now Asante has the problem the rest of the NFL does. Little white man Welker catchin passes of picks and screens in the slot lined up againststrong safeties and reserve corners and then falling to the ground to avoid contact. Line a someone like T. Sizzle (T. Suggs) up against him and watch his skinny lil butt not get off the line of scrimmage....haha

Welker has developed a reputation as a bit of a winer and a trash talker. Get that reputation and people will take these kinds of quotes and read to far into them.

HumptyRavensfan ...The only problem with your theory is that the Ravens were in the bottom five when it came to NOT giving up pass plays of 20 yards or more in 2007. Suggs and the boys must have forgot to follow up that initial contact..

July 6, 2008  10:30 AM ET

Forgot just how bad the Ravens were last year on defense ( and offense too). They gave up just ONE fewer point than the Bengels. Jeesh.

50 year fan...then you musta fallen asleep during the Ravens-Patriots' game when we was thuggin and buggin all over the field

HumptyRavensfan ....Even a broken watch is right twice a day. lol. You are a true fan though, and I respect that.

I just think Welker is that good. Every one thinks Moss made Welker, I think they got it backwards.
Moss caught all of seven passes in the play offs, he was contained. Welker was the guy, not sure anyone ever did stop him..

The "ripping" Wes did was of a different sort after eating a quart of Boston Baked Beans !!!

July 6, 2008  11:21 AM ET

Everyone talks about "the Miracle Catch" as the deciding moment of the Giants' Super Bowl victory. Everyone forgets Asante Samuel "booting" a sure interception on the Giants' winning drive. If Samuel holds onto the ball, the Pats win the Super Bowl. Period. But Asante boot it and they lose.

Welcome to Philly, Asante! If (when) you do that in an Eagles' uniform, the Eagles fans will "Mitch Williams" your a** right out of town. If you want to know what you have waiting for you in Philly, give T.O. a call. He's got stories. So does Donovan!!

I'm all for the game but unline Welker, Asante HAS a few championships. I'm not mad at him for going to the highest bidder and perhaps a new challenge.

Yeah, and Asante would have had one more if he hadn't booted that pick in the Super Bowl.
