No love for Isles, Oilers, Thrashers
The NHL now has three franchises that operate in free agent no-mans land. The Islanders, Atlanta and Edmonton simply cannot get players to sign unless absurd money is thrown at them, and in the case of Marian Hossa leaving approximately $90M on the table from the Oilers, not even then. Indeed, we're told the threat that had the most effect in Tampa's ownership's ultimately successful attempt to coerce Dan Boyle into waiving his no-trade clause four months after passing up free agency in order to attain it, was, "If you don't, we'll put you on waivers and you'll be playing in Atlanta."

Hilarious! That's gonna make my day!
Srange that no player wants to go to Edmonton since most of hem are Canadian and originate from Alberta.... Ah, once you've tasted Florida or California sunshine, it's hard to go back, right?

I love it!
I wish the Leafs would use this tactic on a few guys.

Judging from where you're from BGM...I can certainly see why you'd think Edmonton would be paradice. :)
It's kind of odd though...Edmonton does kind of remind you of finishing school for young NHLers before they move on to bigger clubs. Jagr doesn't seem to mind the cold...maybe he will end up there.

Baunded-:
Other teams are probably threatening their player with: "if you don't waive your no-trade clause, we'll put you on waivers and you'll be picked up by the Leafs."

Very true, and that is why Pittsburgh let Malone walk. Though you listen to some of the yinzers here saying we should have traded Fluery and Malkin to keep Malone...

bostongm, I laso believe Edmonton will be good this year. Their youngsters are just amazing. They're pretty deep at all positions. I saw Garon and Roloson play a lot last year and, wow, these guys are unbelievable.

Bostongm, I couldn't have put it better myself.
Let's go Oilers, and show Hossa what he passed up. Wouldn't it be sweet if we could pull off another shocker like in '06 ......... Hossa would probably cry, right there on the ice.

ouch, thats brutal, but really funny. If Atlanta is that bad, why hasnt Kovalchuk demanded a trade out of there? I still can't get enough of how much the Atlanta front office sucks though. That Coburn-Zhitnik trade last year still makes me laugh. Hopefully Coburn will continue to get better and I'll be laughing about it for a long time.

Trade Flower or Geno? Haha, no way dude. The people who said that just really love Bugsy. Love his play style and his leadership, don't get me wrong, but he was very replaceable, and very overpaid in Tampa.

bostongm, players looking forward to retirement, want a soft place to land! They've been pampered over the years and often gotten away with lousy efforts and still got paid top dollar! That will never happen in cities like Calgary, Edmonton or Montreal, and they know it!
The fans will not let them get away with a lousy attitude, poor effort. They won???t let them sleep walk through their season! They'll run them out of town! The fans in those cities give you total loyalty and support but also demand and expect excellence in return.
With a new owner and no cash constraints, only good times are ahead for the Oil. These pampered primma donas know better than to show up there with a half as*s effort so they look for the cushy jobs in the East where the travel is easy and they can do their thing without much objection!

Because Hossa rejected Edmonton, they think everybody is rejecting it?
I think T&R is going a little overboard today.

Hossa merely wants to set the journeyman record by playing for 15 different NHL teams before he's done.

Many times I think it's the wives who present the problem. They want stuff to do in the winter months while hubby is on road trips and they are stuck at home. Part of the reason is they met elsehwere in the players career and they do not want to move away from where they have always been.
But in a lot of cases, why would a guy choose Deadmonton over Anaheim or San Jose if the $$ are equal.
