Love plays with President Bush

In case you wondered, he didn't take a present. After all, what would you give a president for his birthday? But Davis Love III was among a dozen or so PGA TOUR players who attended the Fourth of July festivities at the White House as President George W. Bush also celebrated his 62nd two days early. Love is a long-time friend of the Bush family. He first met the 41st president of the United States about 15 years ago and then got to know the 43rd shortly afterwards. Both Bushes have served as honorary chairmen of the Presidents Cup, too. And about that present. Love might not have brought a birthday gift, but he did send the president a copy of a book he wanted after the Christmas party several years ago.

Keep him on the golf course, Love. He can do less damage there.

July 6, 2008  02:07 PM ET

Pretty sad.

This highlights, again, that most tour players from Azinger to Fred Funk are clueless in picking leaders.

Fred Funk hates Democrats. Guess what Fred. Democrats made this country. They are the blue-collar hacks that work the dirt jobs that Fred doesn't have to. They are the guys who serve in the wars that Fred never served in.

You know what Fred? You've got **** in the place of brains.

What the....? Why is this a story? Who the hell cares? Now if Love admitted to having an affair with the Prez......

July 6, 2008  05:34 PM ET

Jonisagolffan, at what age were you brain washed?

July 6, 2008  05:58 PM ET

*hits ball into lake*

"That's what we call a Texas birdie."

July 6, 2008  08:58 PM ET

Did Bush blame it on Clinton when he lost?

July 6, 2008  10:09 PM ET

Wait a minute... didn't bu**sh** give up golf as his so-called sacrifice to support the troops? Put another checkmark in the "Hyprocrite" column...

July 7, 2008  12:45 AM ET

If Obama gets elected, will he have to carry the clubs?

July 7, 2008  01:52 AM ET

Oops...typo...take the extra "r" out of hypocrite...

July 7, 2008  03:58 AM ET

The most interesting story of the day, this is?

Come on Jon you cant seriously believe the democrats represent the blue collar working class. The Kennedys dont wipe their own butts, John Kerry(well enough said) and the list goes on.There isnt an elected official on this planet that works for anyone but themselves! Oh and by the way the whole reason i got on this page was to congratulate Davis because he finally played against someone he can beat.

Well said Beast!

July 8, 2008  04:32 AM ET

I thought G. Bush said he gave up golf because of the war? Guess not

July 8, 2008  09:59 AM ET

Ummm, didn't Bush make a big deal about how he "gave up" golf as a sacrifice to show respect for the troops.

Yet another disingenuous and dishonest thought from the Current Occupant.

Thanks for nothing, George.

This story doesn't have Tiger in it... Was he at home playing the XBox or PS3? Did he call Love and congradulate him on his win like he did Kim?

Uh, a guy with a bad back playing with a guy who's spineless. What a pairing!
