More Joba-Youkilis tension

The sixth inning Sunday night provided another subplot to the bad blood apparently simmering between Kevin Youkilis and Joba Chamberlain when Chamberlain threw inside, barely missing the Boston first baseman with a pitch that went behind his legs. Youkilis took several steps toward the mound and several members of the Red Sox bench shouted at Chamberlain, but there were no further incidents. Chamberlain and Yankees manager Joe Girardi said the pitcher was merely trying to work the inside part of the plate against a batter who already had two hits on outside pitches. It wasn't as simple as that for Youkilis, though. "What I want to say, I'm not going to say," he said. Added Boston manager Terry Francona: "Well, there is a history there." Last season, Chamberlain threw two balls over Youkilis' head in a game at the Stadium and Youkilis was enraged afterward. Sunday night, Youkilis scored on Chamberlain's wild pitch in the fifth inning and slid into Chamberlain's leg. Asked if there was any intent behind his pitch near Youkilis, Chamberlain said: "No. There was nothing behind it. He had been on base twice and I didn't want him on again. "I was trying to throw a two-seamer in," added Chamberlain, who allowed three runs in six innings. "He got two hits on balls away."

Youk is like a dumb billy-goat. It's too bad also, because he was from a better breed.

Oh no I think I hear a "wambulance" coming.

geez Youk make up your mind last year you said hit me somewhere but dont throw at my head now the Yanks throw behind your leggs and you dont like that either. Make up your mind on where you want to be hit. Is that soo hard?

July 7, 2008  07:07 AM ET

Ha, Yankees fans making fun of Youk's emotions? Clearly he's a hothead, but better you worry about Joba "Fist pump after a routine K" Chamberlain. This is not news. Baseball players are going to have mini-feuds. Who cares?

July 7, 2008  08:22 AM ET

I hate Youk.

Next time nail him in the mellon and give him something to complain about once he comes around.
Yankees won, Mo rules.

Yes!! How about Mo on Manny? Ramirez looked like that was his first at bat against Manny ever! That was too funny.

It's baseball...if you hit two pitches outside and the pitcher comes inside, that's no reason to get mad. Let Yousuckilis go up to the mound and see how hard it is to throw strikes...sorry if some brush you back a little. More Boston Babies....waaaa waaaa waaaa.

July 7, 2008  08:46 AM ET

Two of the more annoying faces in sports right now...

July 7, 2008  08:48 AM ET

Joba is a punk, wasn't good enough to get the win..if he keeps throwing at and behind hitters he'll get his, they always do....also nice of him to shake off his catcher and end up walking Ellsbury...Pedroia made him pay....

Yanks were lucky to escape this weekend..nice to see that they had something to cheer about.....in third place...

Not too dearly though, huh? Hey listen, let me ask you, does that little sour grapes speech of yours go for everyone, or just the Yankees?

July 7, 2008  08:56 AM ET

Pablepon. Nice stat that he is responsible for 4 walk off hits to end games. Next pitch was his fifth. One of the most annoying Sox players. Hey Bob I dont think the Yanks escaped this weekend. Losing 2 out of 4 to the second place team is not a good outing. Sox were close to winning all 4.

July 7, 2008  09:02 AM ET

Youkilis looks like a UPS driver. He should spend more time getting packages on time then complaining when someone brushes him off the plate.

I don't think the split is anything to cheer wildly about, but I think, for Yankee fans, getting the win and embarassing the Sox like that (i.e. Manny's cup of coffee at the plate and Papelbon's tough guy face getting wiped off his head for his fifth walk-off hit) was cause for celebration. They love to embarass us and we love to embarass them. Last night we got to chalk one up.

Wah, wah, wah. The Sox have been hitting the Yankees for years and now they can't take it. Wah, wah, wah.
Pap's no Mo.
If shaking off the catcher is the best you could come up with you may want to log off now.
Oh, did I mention Wah, Wah, Wah.

Youkilis must be a graduate of the Paul Lo Duca School for ****. For all of this talk about him playing the game so hard and being a gritty guy he certainly whines and cries about as much as Curt Schilling used to. And my used to, I am referring to the OBVIOUS fact that Schilling's career is DONE. Youkilis should just shut his bush league mouth and play.

July 7, 2008  09:10 AM ET

Good baseball this week end. No matter who you root for. Ya gotta love it.

Mornin Cyder. Well, we might as well join the band of half-wits who bust on A-Rod for taking steroids without any proof or indication whatsoever. Youk is juicin'! Stop the rage!
