Doc Rivers' son commits to Gators

Austin Rivers, 15-year-old son of Celtics coach Doc Rivers, orally committed to Florida, the Orlando Sentinel reported. Rivers, a 6-foot-3 rising sophomore guard at Winter Park High, averaged 14 points, four rebounds and three assists a game for a 28-2 team. He is the youngest player ever to commit to Gators basketball coach Billy Donovan, the Sentinel reported. Point guard Nick Calathes committed to UF after his sophomore season at Lake Howell. Austin Rivers' older sister, Callie, plays volleyball for UF.

In other news, Doc White ,the local greeter at Wal-Mart, his son committed to the SouthWest Michigan Poly Technical Institute for Welding and Religion. The 6' 5" 13 year old 8th grader averaged 60 points per game and 0 assists because he was a show boat ball hog.

There needs to be some kind of NCAA rule barring college coaches from recruiting players this young. This is ridiculous. These kids don't even know what college is all about, and they're already committing.

I love my Gators and all, but why should I care about this? The kid's 15 and hasn't even started his sophomore year of high school yet. There's plenty of time for him to change his commitment.

I'll start applauding 3 years from know when he's graduated and still maintaining his oral commitment to UF.
