Texas Rangers Michael Young and Ian Kinsler each finished second in the fan All-Star voting at their respective positions. Young, however, edged elected starter Derek Jeter (470-463) among the players, and Kinsler, who leads the AL in batting average (.332) and runs scored (79) throttled Boston's Dustin Pedroia, the fans' favorite, 389-215, among the players. With a late voting rush among fans, Kinsler made a run at Pedroia, but fell 34,000 votes short.

It's a freakin shame that junk like Milton Bradley and Ryan Ludwick made the All-Star team

July 7, 2008  09:23 AM ET

It's a shame that stupid Boston fans can't vote for the best 2nd baseman in baseball right now. No comparison between Kinsler and Pedroia. It's hard to argue with Bradley's numbers right now. We're just looking at the first half of this season, not the whole career.

Bradley is a tool.......
but his #'s warrant an all star selection

July 7, 2008  09:53 AM ET

Oh- and Young beating out Jeter is interesting........

SS used to be the 'glamour posiion' in the AL-
now BOTH are under 300 - young is having a little better season than Jeter...but not truly a 'great' season

July 7, 2008  10:22 AM ET

Prediction:

Bradley will suffer one more galactic meltdown and will be out of baseball after next season.

July 7, 2008  10:35 AM ET

take the vote away from the fans!

July 7, 2008  10:46 AM ET

kinsler deserved to be starting there is no doubt about that.......but it happens. its a popularity contest.

and jeter did beat out young for votes but honestly did you really think new yorkers were going to let anyone other than king jeter start in the last all-star game played at the house that ruth built........no way!

tyger35 - People vote for who they want in the game. Every year there's a few guys who get in that don't deserve to be there.

Where's your hate for the Cubs' fans who put Alfonso Soriano on the team? What about Jeter? He sure as hell doesn't deserve to go. Where's your Yankee hate?

If you're going to make a point, be accurate. If you just want to hate on the Red Sox, go whine to your mama. Ask her for extra Fruity Pebbles while you're at it.

July 7, 2008  11:11 AM ET

AllStar voting is mostly a joke.

July 7, 2008  11:14 AM ET

You're right AllStarz. Half of the guys shouldn't be starters. But it is what it is. If you let fans vote, they're gonna screw up several of the choices.

But, they got Hamilton right. They got Soto right. They got Youk right. A-Rod is right.

It's like this every year. I think baseball wants to keep it with the fans though. It's part of what gets people interested in the game.

July 7, 2008  11:18 AM ET

It is what it is.

July 7, 2008  11:20 AM ET

Bradley deserves to be there. People want to hate on him, but his numbers are near the top this year. He can fling/break bats or meltdown all he wants with those numbers. Not every crap player from Boston needs to be at the All-Star game. Kinsler is a much better player than Pedroia this season, just look at their numbers side by side. Anybody who says Pedroia's stats are better is delusional.

July 7, 2008  11:24 AM ET

P.S. Why are losers like Cliff Lee and Grady Sizemore even being allowed within 5000 miles of the All Star game? Gimme a break. Well, at least Sabathia is getting off that Indians team. Lucky him.

Amen! If the voting were based on performance Cal Ripken would have had about 8-10 less appearances.

da big bumout | 07/07/08, 11:32 AM

the angels have the better pitching. the only hitter is vlad and even he's having an off year compared to others.

July 7, 2008  02:07 PM ET

The Cubs are the only first place team with a large number of all-stars. Maybe it is a team sport afterall.

July 7, 2008  02:52 PM ET

Allstar voting is a joke and making the team doesn't mean a thing anymore. The fans will always vote for the Red Sox and Yankees players for the most part. It is a crying shame because a lot of good players won't make the team. DO YOU HEAR THIS BUD SELIG...FAN VOTING IS A JOKE!!!!!
