With just two words on Sunday, Miami Heat rookie forward Michael Beasley cleared up his status with the team for the Orlando Pro Summer League. ''I'm playing,'' Beasley said. Beasley, who is recovering from a fractured sternum, practiced without limitations for a second consecutive day and has been cleared to play in summer league games.

he should not play there is no reason for it we know what he can do
summer league is for players who are trying to make the team not for first or second picks

If the guy is slightly injured then there is no reason for the #2 pick to play Summer b-ball. They should use the summer to rehab him and get him stronger. That's why they have the preseason. Why take your chance on a summer league when you know the guy is gonna be good. Look what happen to Oden last year. Wasted 1 year because of summer leagues. Does not make sense.

well I guess those few inches in height he was talking about do make a diffrence. if he was actually 6' 10" as listed in college that would not have been his sternum but his diaphram or stomach.

July 7, 2008  08:59 AM ET

So in reality- it ISN'T a fractured sternum......
probably more of a bruise & the heat's PR department is saying it is a break....
so he comes back soon and appears to be a 'tough guy'

Do you really think we are that dumb ?
A fractured sternum = you are NOTplaying in summer league games/practice

Does anyone know how they pick teams to play in certain summer leagues? I mean, why isn't portland playing in the orlando league? Is it the team's choice? or someone just invites them?

Bulls V Heat today 5PM

Actually heat fan your a moron. Lebron James played in the summer leagues, so did T MAC, Dwight Howard, and every rookie that comes into the League. Its a way to measure things, reactions to coaches, the bigger bodies of the NBA. Every player should have to put in their time.

Just like Beasley will be bringing Dwayne Wade donuts and packing his luggage during road trips.

Maybe he should wear a chest mask, like the one Rip Hamilton wears on his face.

heat fan this is for you

i agree Beasly should rest he is a sure starter for my heaters he should recover until the reg. season.

July 7, 2008  12:39 PM ET

Can we say this year's Greg Oden?

July 7, 2008  12:52 PM ET

He's going to play!!!! That was a close one, I was about to label him as a bust.

July 7, 2008  01:08 PM ET

There was never any question as to whether Beasley would play. He has a small fracture that doesn't even require treatment. It will heal in time on it's own.

well tht's the whole point. 'Let it heal on its own" and NOT risk further aggravation..You think some CHI scrubs haven't heard of this freak injury to his chest, and may want to take a stab at it??
This is foolishness, if you ask me.

July 7, 2008  04:39 PM ET

this is ridiculous. he should just rest. his team knew his ability so they took him second, heat fans an idiot stars do play but they don't need to wen they're injured

July 7, 2008  05:40 PM ET

At least he didn't break his coccyx.

July 7, 2008  08:06 PM ET

He's getting killed on the NBA blogs (he's soft,he's a bust),,...Thats why he's playing!!!!

July 7, 2008  08:34 PM ET

He should relax and get healed up.

ANOTHER POINT: what is it with rookie hazing? If some **** on the team didn't elbow him, they wouldn't have their key asset to avoiding another 67 loss season.

Sometimes these people can be so stupid with rookies. If you don't have Beasley, you end up not winning 10 games until after the All-Star Break! When will the "veterans" wake up!?
