Annika rips Wie after withdrawl
Typically soft-spoken and diplomatic, Annika Sorenstam sharply criticized Michelle Wie for the circumstances surrounding Wie's withdrawal during the first round of last week's Ginn Tribute, a new tournament hosted by the former No. 1-ranked player. Sorenstam was upset that Wie, who had received a sponsor's exemption to play in her first LPGA event of the year and her first tournament since January, did not call Sorenstam after she withdrew. Sorenstam also was not happy after hearing that Wie had practiced over the weekend at Bulle Rock.

I'm glad to finally see this. Annika is the one player that can and should say something about the little immature girl. Pulls out because "her wrist is hurting" but starts practicing the following week? And when she does pull out doesn't contact the host of the tournment. I think she should stop playing in the LPGA and the PGA until she can prove that she's mature enough to be in the atmosphere that she's trying to compete. And when she proves that she should tell her parents to shut up and stay in the back ground.

Not the following week, the following DAY. I can't wait to see this week's edition of 'Wie are Family' and their hilarious escapades at the McDonald Championships. Should be a laugh riot!

Michelle Wie is so over hyped! I know that she won some tournaments as an amateur (so we know she can play - at least when she was a foot taller than everyone else in her field as a 5' 11" 12 year old).
And while I commend her courage (some would say arrogance) for wanting to compete on the PGA tour... She should try to win a tournament on the LPGA tour first. Why? Because no matter how much confidence any player has... playing and not even competing (coming in second to last???) has got to take a toll on a person's confidence.
Golf is an individual sport - you play against other people in the field - but you're competing with yourself and the course. Maybe Michelle needs to evaluate herself honestly and come to the realization that a lot of people have of her... at her best - she's a good player... at her worst - she's a very mediocre player. And the only way to get better is to work on fundamentals and build up your skill set, experience, and confidence playing in tournaments where she has a chance to compete.
If you don't believe me... check out her tournament records.

Relax. She is only like, 8 years old. How mature were you at her age? She is a 16 year old girl. Let her be one.

Well said learn how to golf first then take advice from a bad B.J. the best thing she can do is have an independent manager. She can't even trust her own family to give he good advice and their making her look like a fool.

Maturity has nothing to do with her bad advice she's getting from her family. When is her dad going to grow up!

She is just a kid so hopefully she will learn from all this. If these types of issues continue when she's in her 20's, then she deserves all the bad press she's been getting.
It does sound like she's not a friendly type when playing. One of her playing partners last year (Lincicome?) said she barely said anything during the round and was all business. I'm not surprised her pro-am partners complained of her aloofness. She needs to tone down that game face and lighten up. Not an attractive quality for a teenage girl to have.
Also sounds like her parents aren't too savvy in how they conduct themselves and how they're "managing" their daughter. The fact that she didn't apologize to Sorenstam for withdrawing due to her "injury" is as classless as the time she fired her caddy without having the decency to contact him directly ??? after she had the best success of her young career with him carrying her bag.

Let me say that I never wish ill will on anyone, but anything that happens to this girl and her father couldn't happen to a "better group of people." I' admit that I followed her at a tournament a couple years ago, and I got the privilege to witness her father doing his "thing." As a parent myself, I just had to sit back and laugh at the guy. This weekend's embarassment and now the news that her last two pro-am partners are none to happy with her lack of friendliness proves that she's in over her head. Look at how Creamer, Pressel, Miyazato, etc. handled their teenage years and look at how successful they have been in their early LPGA careers. Wie's taking an entirely different approach, and who knows what will happen with her. It will be interesting to see if she ends up being the LPGA's version of Ty Tryon. My money is on that happening.

I respect Annika saying the issues. No one else steps up and says what the world thinks about this train wreck. It's turning into a day time soap.

When Annika talks, people listen. She's well-respected, and she wins tournaments.
When Michelle speaks, people wonder what she really meant. She can't keep her stories straight, and she hasn't won more than a few bills since turning pro.
And when BJ opens his mouth at a tournament, he gets escorted off the course. Maybe Michelle will be next.

This is all going to end in a train wreck. Another kid pushed too hard by her parents. Sad.

Well... look at it this way... we now have a new catch phrase.
If someone quits something, we can say that they took the "Wieasy" way out.
Ha ha!

The fact Annika said this speaks volumes about what the tour as a whole thinks; no one with any real clout could have done this.
