NHL eyes new Yankee Stadium

The Yankees were on board. The city was on board. And the NHL wanted to do it. But myriad logistical problems made it too costly and too difficult for the NHL to stage the next Winter Classic as the closing act at Yankee Stadium. Still, if the NHL won't be making history by closing the old ballpark, it could well wind up staging the first non-baseball sporting event in the new one. The Daily News has learned that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, Yankees COO Lonn Trost and mayor Mike Bloomberg concluded their discussions on the topic recently with each pledging their interest in playing a Winter Classic in the new Yankee Stadium - perhaps on New Year's Day 2010.

As a Rangers' fan, I should be insulted...but they really do stink on those "Special Days"

Mystery, Alaska - like in that movie with Russel Crowe.

cmh_phx, the Rangers won that game!

DEVO, I hope nobody nukes Iran, but if anyone does let it be Israel. They are the ones beating the drums of war louder than ever.

All those camel jockeys watching hockey might be amusing.

At least it's at a traditional olde stadium...that has to count for something in BETTMAN'S NHL

July 8, 2008  11:28 AM ET

The league trying to build rivlaries would have the game between the Rangers and Bruins. They're obsessed with the NY/BOS rivalry.

Nah, it's just Patriotscheated, etc. trying to go for that FN discount. Previously used Avatars don't count however. BTW, he's also appearing as Al Capone on yesterday's thread....

Oh, I missed him above, too.

I'm getting senile up here at Beaver town. My apologies to Al, evidently. A case of mistaken identitiy on my part.

OtherOne......Iran is on record as saying that Israel should be wipped off the map. A pre-emptive strike is for their survival.
