In April 2006, broadcaster Phil Simms offered advice on a satellite radio show to Brett Favre, who was considering whether he should return to play for his 16th season in the National Football League. Simms advice, which Favre happened to hear live, was this: "Play as long as you can. When you think it's over, play another or two years . . . because life after football, it's forever".Favre came back and played in his 16th and 17th seasons. On March 4, Favre formally announced his retirement.

Simms should be giving advice to his son on how to be a QB.

What Simms is insinuating is that Favre has already played his two years past the expiration date and should stay retired instead of going for at least a 3rd season.

In the cold of Lambeau, in the playoff game, which, by the way, the Packers should have won, Favre looked like an old man. He could not take the cold and he didn't rise to the occasion. He was ineffective - especially on the last play of the game. All this s hite is is indulgence on his part. That team played magnificently in the playoff game and should have won. They deserve better.
(And yes, I'm bitter because I lost a crapload of money on that game, g oddam mit.)

I think Sims is a good analyst. Don't like him much as a person, but his analysis is decent. I'll tell you who should give up: Esiason, Marino, and - please God! - Collinsworth. No former receivers as commentators ever.

Favre will do the same as so many before him. Go out looking like a bum because he stayed too long or broken in half by some defensive player and is unable to recover from the injury.

I just watched this game again yesterday, as part of the Giants 5 disc Championship package. Save for a 90 yard TD pass to Driver, the Packers Offense was non-existent. The Giants outplayed the Pack, more yards, twice the possession time on the clock, and multiple missed scoring chances (including 2 missed field goals). The Pack was lucky to get the game into OT. No way they SHOULD have won that game, and they DIDN'T because they didn't deserve it.

I have no idea what game you were watching?

When Reggie White "retired" the first time how long did that last?

Beat me to it. I'll tell you one thing. Every post-season game the Giants played this past winter was pretty memorable. They went from looking like dumb-luck misfits to a team of destiny. You couldn't write a better script for Hollywood.

He is one of the better analysts out there. And what Brett Favre is doing right now, if it is in fact true, is selfish and harmful to the current makeup of the Packers. Whether he plays there or not doesn't even matter. He's not considering what consequences his actions bring.

It was close to the end and the Pack played a very hot team very close. The game was lost by Favre. BTW, the offense was mostly not there because he was having trouble and, if you watched Packer games last year, the whole offense is lifted or depressed by Favre's performance. (BTW, I watched that game from before the beginning to the bitter end - and I;m not even a Packers' fan.)

This is exactly right, but the Packers DID have a chance to beat them until the intercept. (What amazed me, who put down bucks essentially on the bitter cold of Lambeau, was how the Giants came out and clearly wanted it much more than the home team. I couldn't believe how lifted they were and depressed the Packers were. They were, I think, waiting for Favre to pull a couple miracles and they just weren't in the bag. He looked like a real old man that game and it was said because I think most were pulling for him to go out in a blaze.)

BTW, I answered Betty whatever's comment.
