Federal prosecutors are opposing efforts by Tim Donaghy, the disgraced former N.B.A. referee, to have a retired F.B.I. agent testify about Donaghy's cooperation with the government. Donaghy has admitted to providing inside information to gamblers and to helping them pick games. He could face up to 25 years in prison, but under federal sentencing guidelines, the term will probably fall in the 33-month range. Judge Carol B. Amon, who is presiding over the case, must decide in the next day whether to have Scala testify during an unrelated hearing scheduled for Wednesday morning. In a letter filed on Friday, the prosecutors said there was no legal basis for Donaghy to subpoena a former government agent. They contended that the court already had sufficient information, provided by both sides, attesting to Donaghy's cooperation in the case. And they wrote that Scala had indicated to them "that he has nothing more to add" on the subject.

telling it all just like Jose Canseco. no wait I wish he was facing jail time as well. Stern has problems. bet he retires in the next two years or sooner and claim it was his plan long before the scandel.

Nobody cares about this ****.

July 8, 2008  08:56 AM ET

Maybe telling the truth but nobody will believe a liar

Donaghy will go to jail, and the NBA will sweep this case under the carpet until it happens again, or until he's released and writes a book.

July 8, 2008  10:28 AM ET

Hmmm.... would you buy the book, that is the question.

July 8, 2008  11:05 AM ET

Let the guy testify...You say he has nothing new to add, then let him talk.....That is what we do in America, give the guy every reasonable chance to defend himself.....It seems reasonable to me....Who really does not want him to testify?....The Feds???

July 8, 2008  11:53 AM ET

Doesn't this picture of Donaghy just make you want to bich slap him !!!

July 8, 2008  12:05 PM ET

he's pretty young for a coach i noticed. or atleast he looks kinda young.

July 8, 2008  01:13 PM ET

this is kinda random but that NBA jacket on him seems too large for him. Makes me think 'Did he win it in a bet?'

July 8, 2008  01:26 PM ET

if he did, that's probably the only time when he got screwed by the loser.
The NBA should try to claim the jacket as part of the lawsuit on the grounds that it is too oversized for the man by a reasonable person standard.

Hollywood,
How can I disagree with you sometimes when you have that powerful picture of the Truth (not Pierce, never) looking very pensive!? As opposed to pictures of 50 cents and Will Farrell and soda cans... No offense to them though.

July 8, 2008  03:33 PM ET

The only reason this story appeared was because it was a slow news day for the NBA.

Nothing if that's what you're into. Personally, I wouldn't want anybody to know I was that stupid.
