Arenas reveals top 5 NBA players

Wizards star Gilbert Arenas listed his best five players in the NBA to the Manila Bulletin on a visit to the Philippines recently. "Chauncey Billups (Detroit Pistons) at point guard, Kevin Garnett (Boston Celtics) at small forward, Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs) and Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic) at center." Who's the toughest to guard in the NBA? "It's hard to pick, but probably because of the system it's Steven Nash (Phoenix Suns). He does a lot of pick-n-roll. Anybody who does a lot of pick-n-roll always has the advantage because somebody has to pick him."

and who would put KG as the best SF? KG is a solid paint protector and offensive post player. He has a good jump shot for a PF but he wouldnt be as much of a threat if he only took perimeter jump shots... and his defense would not be as dangerous on the perimeter.. He could not keep up with smaller, quicker SFs as well.. Kobe played a lot of SF alongside a combination of Fisher, Farmar, and Vujacic in the finals.. can KG keep up with Kobe's explosiveness off the perimeter?

I have no doubt that Kevin Garnett is a GREAT power forward/center and would deserve to be on this kind of a list.. but as a SF? I guess if he was going for best forwards.. KG and TD would be great but to say KG is a top 5 sf is a bit bizarre.

maybe he should try the pick and roll as well

suprised this "team first" player even knows there are other people on the court.

July 8, 2008  07:50 AM ET

IMAO!!...KG at the SF position?...Arenas a great player and talent but not that smart...Howard ?? maybe,he is good though but I think Amare is better at center than Howard...if it was me,here are my fav 5 at each position:

PG.I like Nash a lot but I have to go with CP3:faster,younger and smart.
SG.Kobe,do I need to say more?
SF.Lebron, just let me ask something, who can stop him?
PF. Duncan, proven winner and one of the best players in the last decade.
C. Kwame Brown....just kidding, just kidding!!...I guess I will go with Yao MIng because of his size and they guy can really score, but if we are just talking about American players I like Stoudemire....what do you guys think of my list? Did I outsmart Arenas on this one?

July 8, 2008  07:53 AM ET

I know I didn't include KG but look at it this way, who's better by stats, championships and leadership: KG or Duncan?Duncan but not by much...OK we leave Stoudemire out and bring KG in,better?

July 8, 2008  08:18 AM ET

Lakerfan24- I like your list. I think Howard will be the best center in the league within the next couple years. How bout putting KG at power forward, and Duncan at the center position?

July 8, 2008  08:48 AM ET

The guy is rich and I guess he could say whatever he wants. His performance for one year sold it to the Wizards.

July 8, 2008  08:51 AM ET

KG used to be a small forward for the wolves and hit perimiter jumper after jumper, even some threes, and he was skinnier and fast as hell of the dribble. The last four years is when he has really been more of a power forward.

July 8, 2008  08:52 AM ET

I hope that he is not putting himself on this list. CP3 is so much better than Billups at this point. I'm starting to think that Arenas doesn't know much besides how to get paid.

July 8, 2008  09:00 AM ET

3 Centers and a point guard? I guess he is the best SG. I tka ehim over Me me me Kobe anytime!
You see what he has done to kobe through out his carreer.....He's lit up kobe something fierce!!!

July 8, 2008  09:03 AM ET

Yao Ming cant finish a season, and cant play full min, and never will... He just doesn't have the body for it Lakerfan...

July 8, 2008  09:07 AM ET

xoboy... give me a break????! Maybe you need a date..

Non story...

July 8, 2008  09:09 AM ET

I'm surprised Gilbert didn't list himself at every position. And the team payroll would only be 600 million!

July 8, 2008  09:28 AM ET

Guys; Arenas is giving HIS opinion. On the team he has constructed here, Garnett WOULD be a small forward. Leave it to Laker Nation to get their panties in a bunch because he didn't list Kobe at the 2.
