Stars' Barnes likely to retire

I would guess that Stu Barnes will announce his retirement soon. He is in the mix of bodies at the Stars development camp, although he's more there to observe than do anything. The NHL coaching staff is not on the ice, but they all are in the building. That means a lot of time to just sit and chat and figure things out. I think there still is a question as to what role Barnes will fill. Ulf Dahlen (who has moved on to become the head coach for Frolunda in Sweden) was an experienced coach who was driven to do a lot and wanted even more responsibility than he was given. He watched a lot of games from the pressbox but then would go down to the bench in the third period. Some said that made the bench too crowded at times with too many voices. If Barnes joins the coaching staff, it might be in a more limited role in which he offers insight to younger players and acts as a bridge to the players as a group. If he fills the role that Dahlen did in the pressbox, he would probably stay up in the pressbox all game.

Stuuuuuuuuuuuu!! still has a good year to help the youngsters out, and would be a great help in that area. The Stars are fairly hard against the cap because of the Avery signing, but I still think we could fit Stu in. He said it's either Dallas or nobody. Hopefully he plays another year.

Didn't the stars give up Kevin Hatcher for Zubov? how's that one workin' out? Go Stars indeed
