Brand's decision may shape market

Tonight, the league will release its updated salary cap figures. That will determine exactly how much the Sixers have to spend when teams can begin officially signing free agents tomorrow. Then, all eyes will turn to Elton Brand. Which team he chooses to sign with - most reports suggest the Clippers as the favorite over Golden State - could decide how the rest of the market will swing. Until then, agents and team officials are keeping quiet. If the Warriors can't lure Brand away, they would join the Sixers in the pursuit of the remaining top available players. Golden State has plenty of money to spend after losing Baron Davis to Los Angeles. The Warriors are believed to have offered Brand between $10 million and $20 million more than Los Angeles, capital that would free up if Brand doesn't sign. The Sixers expect to have around $11.5 million to spend. That number could go up or down depending on the league's adjustments. Golden State could be interested in the same players as the Sixers, including Josh Smith, who visited Philadelphia last week. Smith's agent would not comment.

Brand and Davis will make the Clipps an instant playoff team if they both play at least 70 games

Both LA and Philly look like they could be scrappy good next season, but dj hit it on the head, these deals will all come down to injuries. If LA pulls this off (which is the most likely) it will be feast or famine for them. Let me tell you one thing, I won't miss the softies from Dallas making the playoffs next year.

Report Offensive Comment

The Softies from Dallas will always be there whether you like it or not. These softies can still beat any team and they will adjust. Just keep putting them down and your words will be eaten. The softies will have a year together to become stronger as a team w/ JKidd at the helm.

Back to the article, Brand will go for more money. A chance for a championship is not on line w/ any of the team mentioned. He would probably fit more in Cleveland or Dallas because post up is what those teams need. Dallas would have gotten him if they did not trade for Kidd.

Anywhere brand goes-
he makes the team better.....he's a 20 10 guy

However....if you are going to depend on him to be 'the' guy- you are foolish
He is an excellent #2 player

Report Offensive Comment

He is a solid player and can help anyone...

Report Offensive Comment

I agree with you jgb....He is a strong #2 but not the head guy...how about Cleveland along with Lebron....

I mean the difference between last years clippers and the playoff clippers was injuries. Kaman is way better now. Baron Davis is a definate upgrade from Sam Cassel and there other key players are better then the team that went to the playoffs a couple years back, expect it to be a battle between the clips, warriors, nuggets, and blazers. For the last spot.

Even with all those guys healthy theyll barely make an 8th seed or so.. and player histories show thats highly unlikely even

If they can keep both Brand and Maggette, LA is a contender

Report Offensive Comment

Well Wednesday will be a "Brand" new day !!!

Kaycee, nice pun!!!

Brand isn't going anywhere. Baron is added to your team and like Baron, he is a wannabe film producer and there isn't a better place to spend your millions on producing than LA. Sorry Philly, go after Josh Smith.

"...how about Cleveland along with Lebron...."

I'm sure LBJ would love him....
but Clevelands more pressing need is outside shooting

Report Offensive Comment

Now the Clippers need some depth. Even if Maggette leaves, the team will have a very good starting 5.

They should make a move for Mike Miller

Report Offensive Comment

Cleveland needs shooters and I believe they have more hefty contracts then the Knicks ok maybe not but almost there

Report Offensive Comment

if he stays with the clips, they'll be the main contenders with him maggette and b-diddy

Report Offensive Comment

Philly and Golden State will offer him more money but he stays with the Clippers. Him, Davis, Al Thornton, Chris Kaman, and Eric Gordon should form a nice squad.

Is he leaving? He put his home up for sale July 5th.
