Arsenal, Man U. battle for players

Arsenal and Man United are set to battle it out for the signatures of either Roque Santa Cruz or Klaas Jan Huntelaar as both clubs may be set to lose their top goal scorers from last season. Barcelona is reportedly set to up their bid to try lure Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor to the Nou Camp. Should Arsenal accept the offer from the La Liga Runners Up, it will undoubtedly see Arsene Wenger in pursuit of a new hitman for the Gunners. Ajax's Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz are thought to be top of the Frenchman's shopping list for the Summer.

Wow, this is so blatently wrong. Barca were not Liga Runners up, that was Villareal. Barcelona finished third, 10 points behind second.

Yep you are right Dog. The Yellow Submarine took that honor. I find it ridiculous that Arsenal just keep on buying and selling players. They know they'll have to if they buy so why even buy at all?

Who is writing these laughable scoops today? Good thing R's Dog is around to clear things up. Now if someone would kick xoboy to the curb...

I would be very cautious about bringing Adebayor to the Camp Nou - I find him to be a very overrated player.

Soccers over untl the big dance (World Cup). Then again what about league play. Who knows.

July 8, 2008  10:42 AM ET

Yesterday there was an article in T&R that the Gunners were having to sell players because they can't afford their stadium and today they are discussing adding players. Who writes this stuff?!?!?!

July 8, 2008  11:03 AM ET

This is a particularly bad T&R. Yeesh.

Both Santa Cruz and Huntelaar are exactly NOT the kind of signing Wenger has made a career out of. Both are coming off of outstanding seasons and would come at a HUGE price premium. Wenger has always very deliberately sought out talented players coming off of poor performances as a means of finding bargains (or just gone after young guys). There's no way he pays the premium it'd take to land either of these two.

Really, I don't even think Arsenal NEEDS to buy a replacement for Adebayor. They're so loaded up front one of the youngsters will no doubt step in and perform.

This one takes the cake for bad T&R post.

I thought you were only stupuid about hockey...who knew your idiocy was so well rounded

riddy- Arsenal are bound to spend money for players this season and every season.... but they are looking to spend little compared to how much is leaving... thus:

Arsenal sells Player A and B for a total of $50M, but buy Player C and D for $25M.... therefore, the team will have made $25M....

i know its obvious, but your post required an obvious answer

July 8, 2008  12:04 PM ET

spiny norman- you tend to find that amoungst the ignorant

July 8, 2008  12:22 PM ET

This is hilarious! ...i wonder where arsenal found their money??

July 8, 2008  01:00 PM ET

Huntelaar might leave but Ince WILL NOT let Santa Cruz go, he already turned down his old boss Fergie

As far as Arsenal goes, they don't have the money to buy either of them and Wenger doesn't by these kind of players, as previously stated

But United could land Klaas

July 8, 2008  02:30 PM ET

If I were Man U, I would rather take the risk of Roque Santa Cruz being a 'one year wonder' over Huntelaar who has yet to prove himself on a big stage. Not taking anything away from Huntelaar's abilities but it's hard to tell just good he is and how his game will translate playing in a far superior league to the one whe is currently in (no disrespected meant towards Ajax) but the Dutch Eredivisie cannot compare to the EPL. Plus Santa Cruz seems like the genuine article given his previous experience for Bayern in the Bundesliga.

July 8, 2008  03:12 PM ET

I agree with Cowace... If Arsenal are to sell Adebayor, why buy someone new!? I think the other forwards on Arsenal are good enough to pick up the slack. van Persie, Walcott, Bendtner, and Eduardo (even though he may never be the same after that disgusting injury). They are young and talented, give them a shot. maybe if Eduardo didnt snap his leg this story would never happen because van Persie and Eduardo have proved that they can play in the EPL and they would be quite a dynamic duo, Bendtner and Walcott should not lessen the talent on Arsenal if they were to start

Don't forget Carlos Vela is still around, and that whiz kid Rhys Murphy is supposed to be the next great English striker (cough).

First of all the majority of this crap that T & R posts is either from the spanish news papers which might as well be a BLOG for real madrid or barca. So you HAVE to take everything they say with a grain of salt. And as for the Arsenal and Wenger's comments about not spending much money and selling of players for the next 17 years....this is garbage. I mean, think about it....why would any manager say this. And immediately weaken his bargaining chips with players and other clubs. So don't believe a word of that...sure we have to pay for the Emirates Stadium, but we will keep are young stars and Arsene will always find a couple of diamonds in the rough!!! (See Barcary Sagna and Adebayor) And yes Adebayor may leave....he may not. Either way whoever pry's him away from us for a lump some of money may find that he is a bit overated. We gave him a big pay increase last year before he had did anything remotely great, and he rewarded us with a great season....now he wants more money?!?! Selfish ****....but what can you do.

Sorry for the rant....just had to clear up a couple of misconceptions.

As for us possibly getting Cruz or Huntellar...unlikely even if we do lose ADE. We would prob reload with a yougster though...its just how we do things.

if your a fan of Arsenal....or just a soccer/football fan in general check out arseblog.com

a great blog website IMO

i heard Real and Liverpool and Milan were going after Rolando too, zidane will go play for United and Henry will join beckham, these rumors are getting ridiculous.

I believe that we at man utd can sign either one of them. As long as they are willing to live the good life in the fast lane.
