Beasley outplays Rose in debut

Sour notes were about the only thing the Bulls hit during Derrick Rose's summer-league debut Monday, a 94-70 loss to the Miami Heat. That was in stark contrast to Michael Beasley, who was selected second behind Rose in the draft last month. Beasley led the Heat with 28 points and nine rebounds in just under 23 minutes. Beasley was as loose as the Bulls' defense, which he shredded for 9-of-21 shooting from the field and 9-of-12 from the free-throw line. ''Once, they told me to stop singing,'' Beasley said of Joakim Noah's reaction after the rookie forward was fouled. ''I was just singing a happy song.''

be afraid, be very afraid....DWade and B-Easy...Marion, Chalmers/Quinn (i don't think we need anymore points...and Alonzo/Blount combination (blount can score, alonzo and play defense...Dorrell Wright trying to prove it wasn't him, it was Pat Riley...Marcus Banks regaining showing he should have been drafted first round, # 13 in 2003 draft...and I actually hope miami picks up Kwame Brown at the center (he knows he has to prove something or his career is over). they may pick up Marbury, but though he's very talented, I unsure of if it was him or New York and Isiah. Anyway, its looking ugly for the rest of the East, that is if Spoelstra can really coach.

This is not a surprise... I've said since day one that Chicago would regret not taking Beasley... He is head and shoulders above anyone else in the draft, including Rose!!!

July 8, 2008  08:09 AM ET

If he gets that kind of respect from the officials when the real season starts then he'll probably be the mvp.

July 8, 2008  08:20 AM ET

All I can say is he better do it with the real jerseys on too...

July 8, 2008  08:32 AM ET

ur right Heater, but will he get that refree respect once the season starts???

July 8, 2008  08:50 AM ET

lets see him get those shots over legit NBA big men.
The one shot I saw him take to Thomas was sent into the crowd

July 8, 2008  08:51 AM ET

If he plays against a bum like Noah, then yea, he'll get all the respect from the officials he needs

July 8, 2008  08:53 AM ET

Riley almost pucked up on this one. For him to have second thoughts about Beasley was ridiculous. Good thing Bulls got Rose. Beasley is a perfect for the Heat. this guy could be a better version of Elton Brand, the guy they are trying to get.

Michael Beasley owns the NBA Summer League!!!!

July 8, 2008  08:53 AM ET

perfect fit

July 8, 2008  08:54 AM ET

Rose will have a tougher time because he is the PG. The leader.

CanofOil...Quite Amused!!! | 07/08/08, 08:20 AM

He will!!! This kid will get 20 & 10 next season or VERY close to it. The points will be easy but the boards may be tougher. He was the best NBA ready player in the draft, then Mayo. However, the Bulls couldn't pass on Rose who will be a very good pro too.

July 8, 2008  09:41 AM ET

I'm sure Beasley and Rose were not matched against each other. If Beasley was matched up with Noah, this is a non-story. Summer league is just a glorified rookie camp. A lot of players don't even play. Somebody please fanmail me when he does something.

July 8, 2008  09:46 AM ET

Wow! Beasley's taking names in the summer league. The Bulls will NOT regret not taking Beasley. They NEEDED a legit point guard, and that's what they got. It will take some time before Rose meets his full potential. It's hard to compare two completely different players, but I understand that is will be Beasley vs. Rose ALL season. Be prepared for another couple hundred stories just like this one.

In other news, Robin Lopez beat his brother in a game of HORSE in the driveway. He will play in 15 all-star games, win 2 rings and Brook will be in the NBDL by March.

July 8, 2008  10:09 AM ET

Let's not got nuts here people one summer league game doesn't prove anything. Although I would have rather the Bulls taken Beasley myself. Paxson is a horrible GM and I hope he gets fired

July 8, 2008  10:10 AM ET

sorry I meant ***get***

July 8, 2008  10:27 AM ET

I don't think you can read too much into one summer league game.....but I think Beasley will be a bigger star than Rose in the NBA

July 8, 2008  10:27 AM ET

its freaking summer league and of course beasley is going to wipe the court being guarded by Joakim Noah, the guy has a freaking trailer trash fro. So give it a break, Rose will play well but he has to learn the system a little bit. Hopefully they both have a great rookie year because if they dont Greg Oden could take the ROY.
