Leafs still on Nieuwendyk's radar

According to a report on tsn.ca, former Leaf forward Joe Nieuwendyk will meet with Toronto general manager Cliff Fletcher this week to discuss joining the team's management group. Fletcher's first attempt to lure the 1999 Conn Smythe winner north from Florida was rebuffed by Panthers GM Jacques Martin, who had Nieuwendyk under contract as an advisor. But that deal officially ended June 30, and the three-time Stanley Cup winner was free to walk away.

Nieuwendyk is a good hockey guy. Always a good addition to the Leafs management.

If Joe knows what's good for him, he will stay away from that rat's nest!

All Nieuwendyk needs to know is Burke might going there as well. Stay away, Joe!

A management group? Isnt Peddie still the puppet master?

July 8, 2008  11:13 AM ET

Yep! He is, boston! Nothing's changed in that front!

At least the leafs fans will see someone play with a bit of heart.....

I think this would be good for Toronto. I am at least going to give this new approach a chance before passing judgement
I agree that Peddie needs to be gone though

Spiny Norman: Im not going to jump all over, so ill just do this nicely. He's coming back as management, not a player.

The only thing about Toronto that should interest Nieuwendyk is the Hall Of Fame! Next year's class has already been predetermined. But maybe the year after that. A Calder, King Clancy, Conn Smythe, 2 Stanley Cups, 564 goals and he's a class act.
