Tigers player helping Wolverines?

Southeast Michigan is one place Louisville, Miss., athlete Dennis Thames can play his college football where most will know how to pronounce his phonetically misleading surname. Rivals.com ranks the 5-foot-11 175-pound safety/running back prospect as the No. 218 football recruit in the country. He is also the nephew of Tigers outfielder Marcus Thames. "We're real close," Dennis said of his relationship with his uncle. "He's right there, not far away from Michigan. My uncle could go to another team and he wouldn't be there, but him being there right now is good." But will Thames commit verbally to play for the Wolverines in 2009? Michigan offered Thames a scholarship this past spring, seeing his speed, athleticism and ability to play several positions as an ideal fit for the offensive and defensive schemes being employed by Rodriguez. Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn and a host of other schools have also offered Thames a scholarship and are under consideration.

Give this kid a bat! Thames has unbelievable strength.

July 8, 2008  09:00 AM ET

Can he really play though? Not sure I want a scholarship given out just because this kid is related to Thames.

Do you really believe that? Or are you just causing trouble?

Are some of you guys that brain dead to think the only reason why this kid was offered was because his Uncle plays for Detroit? If so, I have a used butt plug of Jenna Jameson's to sell you. This kid was offered because he's a baller. It just happens to be that his Uncle plays for the Tigers which also helps in recruiting him. He would have gotten an offer regardless of his Uncle is.

I still think he stays in the South. Hard to pull kids from that area to Michigan.

Warden:

Thank you for that, rather unique analogy. But, I do agree that the kid has to have some ability otherwise he would not even be on the radar.

July 8, 2008  10:19 AM ET

LMAO butt plug, whats the going rate for one?

July 8, 2008  10:25 AM ET

Riddle me this:

Is there a difference between Butt Plug and Butt Nugget? Or, is this a case of regional dialect?

Nuggets play in east lansing, pluggs play in Columbus.

Be a Bulldog and attend Mississippi State!

July 8, 2008  11:53 AM ET

Agree with arejaydub on that one. He sounds like a Mississippi State target to me.

July 8, 2008  12:31 PM ET

J HOV, Sylvester Croom needs to call Marcus Thames ASAP.

July 8, 2008  01:29 PM ET

Warden, how much you want for that? You paying shipping or me?

July 8, 2008  01:53 PM ET

Warden...you got the guru's juices flowing!

RR is using the **** on the wall theory in recruiting. Throw enough up and some will stick. He's offered scholarships to practically every 3,4 & 5 star kid. H's getting some athletic kids but missing out of stud linemen and RB's. I guess he's doing the best he can as they are not lining up to go to UM like they used to do.

Here's a kid RR can go after now:

Louisville dismisses Spillman after second arrest in 18 months

He'd follow quite nicely in the footprints of Pacman Jones and Chris Henry...RichRod guys!

Sorry Warden, I know it's a cheap shot but I just don't like the RR guy. I get the same feeling about him as I did when Indiana hired Kelvin Sanson.
