Seton Hall lands Mizzou transfer

Keon Lawrence firmly slammed the door on any possible return to Missouri basketball on Monday. The former sophomore guard who led the Tigers in minutes played last season, confirmed to The Star he would transfer to Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J. Lawrence, on July 1, announced he was leaving Missouri to be closer to his home in Newark, N.J. Missouri coach Mike Anderson confirmed later that day he had granted Lawrence his released from MU. That separation came when Lawrence informed Anderson he had been unhappy at MU, and that as in December he was looking around. Sources have confirmed that Lawrence actually had second thoughts about leaving MU, but that the MU coaches - tired of talking Lawrence into staying - told him goodbye and good luck elsewhere.

I can't blame a kid who grew up in an urban area of New Jersey for wanting to leave the state of Missouri to get closer to home. The state of Missouri and Newark, NJ - that's two different planets. Good luck to Keon Lawrence at the Hall...

I agree with EastCoastKeith. He wanted to come home. Nothing wrong with that.

Seton Hall arguably has more tradition than Mizzou playing in the Big East and being runner-up in '89.
Has Missouri ever been to the Final Four?

It is a joke we lost him to Missouri in the first place.
- if he went to Kansas, Arizona....yeah- I get that.....
but Missouri?

I wasn't talking about the programs.....I was talking about the locales.

That being said....I can certainly understand the guy wanting to go back home......and I hope it works out for him

Quinn Snyder lured him to Mizzou, and then was forced to resign. Lawrence was never happy in Anderson's scheme which focuses on full court defense and under the rim offense. Snyders guard happy offense was a good fit for Lawrence, however Quinn Snyder set our program back about ten years because he was a drug addict and an idiot.

So has Quinn landed anywhere, yet?

July 10, 2008  11:17 PM ET

Quinn got a job pretty quick after he was fired actually. Idk if he's kept it but he was signed to be the Spurs D-league head coach. Idk why you'd want him in a league which focuses on development when that's exactly what he stopped doing after three years with the Tigers. Far cry from Pop.

Anyway on to the story itself.... he's foolish for listening to his family and "friends" in a bad part of Newark who tell him he would be a star if he came back home even though Seton Hall hasn't seen promise in years. He would have been the featured guard this year and yeah i seriously doubt the credibility of some of this story because Anderson is already, and unfairly, on the hot seat still trying to clean up Quinn's mess so it makes no sense for him to tell the teams best guard to leave if he had any 2nd doubts. Also, the coaches knew that Lawrence was looking in December because he told them that and they talked him out of it back then.

People tell troubled kids what they want to hear for their own selfish reasons... it wouldnt surprise me if Keon had this happen to him. He came from the ghetto, had his out in basketball, and was on the precipus of stardom at Mizzou having big games and big shots in his first two years at Mizzou... its a reall shame.
