Pistons unlikely to lure Maggette

Don't hold your breath waiting for Corey Maggette to sign here. Joe Dumars has made the proper inquiries, but it's highly unlikely Maggette will wind up in a Pistons uniform. Maggette wants more than the mid-level exception, first of all, worth between $5.5 million and $5.8 million. If he "settles" for the mid-level, it sounds like his first choice would be Boston or San Antonio. His only real hope of getting more than that will be if Golden State fails in its bid to steal Elton Brand from the Clippers -- which seems likely.

Whats your problem with Detroit Corey? It can't be as bad as LA.

July 8, 2008  11:22 AM ET

It's not like Detriot needs him that badly. They just need to add depth to their bench and they'll be alright.

July 8, 2008  11:28 AM ET

detroit sucks arse

July 8, 2008  11:29 AM ET

Pistons have a solid team.. they need a five who can dominate in the paint and a coach that can finish strong.

detroit sucks arse

Let me just add that Motown is no longer Hitsville, USA.

July 8, 2008  11:55 AM ET

It's probably the Celtics for Maggette. He knows Doc and if he wants to win it makes sense to go to Boston.

July 8, 2008  11:57 AM ET

maggette should NOT take the mid-level. he's a good player 20+ scorer not even consider it except for contenders like boston and san antonio and maybe back home with the LAC

July 8, 2008  12:22 PM ET

He is DEFINATLEY not taking a mid-level.

Brand will go first-
then Smith
THEN Magette to whomever has the most $

Magette knows this will be his last BIG contract he gets-
he doesn't care about 'where' he goes- just for how much he will get

I personally would NOT give him big $-

July 8, 2008  12:50 PM ET

he'll do what the majority of 10+ year vets without a ring did...punch the clock with garnett and co. for a ring before he fades away.

July 8, 2008  12:52 PM ET

magette is worth more than the mid level (if no one offers more he will go to boston short term that is what is holding up on signing posey) but only by a couple of million (personally he is worth about 7-10 million per year)

he could go to the warriors or even fill a hole for the 76ers and have a back 3 of a.miller-a.Iguodala-c.magette with dalembert at the 5 and worry about getting a decent power foward next year to be real contenders

the 76ers have stated they want quality at every position like detroit with no genuine superstars and that is on record

July 8, 2008  12:56 PM ET

Can the flopping city pistons please break up!!!

July 8, 2008  01:26 PM ET

uhh no ****

July 8, 2008  01:28 PM ET

detriot has got to be the arm pit of the country anyway

July 8, 2008  01:54 PM ET

Last time i checked DEE of dees, the pistons won more than 14 games last season unlike your Heat and have showed years of consistency by getting to the eastern conference finals 6 straight times.

July 8, 2008  01:55 PM ET

WILL NOT HAPPEN

July 8, 2008  01:58 PM ET

I love posers who (a) have never been to Detroit and (b) come from a city that has a sad sports history. Let's not forget that only 7 teams have won the NBA title in the last 25 years, and the Pistons can claim three of those. If you're not from San Antonio, Boston, LA, or Chicago -- sit down.

July 8, 2008  01:58 PM ET

I heard Orlando was going after him and he was interested. Don't see it happening though since Orlando can only offer the exception. I'd think Maggette could get more than that.

July 8, 2008  02:33 PM ET

Read some where that Maggette would be a great fit for the NO Hornets. However, he will end up in San Antonio where he is needed most. Too bad this guy gets paid far less than Starbury.

July 8, 2008  02:50 PM ET

Once again I would like to say, Corey Maggette sucks. I wouldn't give him alot of money.

July 8, 2008  02:51 PM ET

How can someone bad mouth a Detroit team that has been to seven straight conference finals? Magette would help both with scoring and athleticism but can he play D? I think that they should trade Prince for a future draft pick and make a run at Magette.

The Celtics would not even be a team if Ainge and McHale did not make that ridiculous trade.
