As the Brewers' minor league prospects continue to evolve, club officials can continue picking and choosing among their players, using their surpluses to maximum advantage. The CC Sabathia trade might not be the Brewers' last before July 31 -- they have shown interest in the Giants' Jack Taschner, a left-handed reliever, and Ray Durham, a switch-hitter whom they would use off the bench.

I'm sure they are not done. I think the Brew Crew is going for it this year....

July 8, 2008  02:22 PM ET

I think they've removed all doubt they are going for it at all costs this year.

July 8, 2008  02:32 PM ET

Adding another reliever and maybe a left-handed complement to Cameron in center are two options. I could also see them bringing in another infielder to man second base over weak Weeks. Another starter? They don't have lots of holes, but they seem to be building some momentum.

I think Durham would be a nice add for Milwaukee - give them another bat to fill in and provide depth off the bench. And, he could play 2B in place of Weeks

How about getting something green for that Fielder kid to eat.

Vegetarian my ace.

July 8, 2008  03:18 PM ET

They are spending what it takes to have a shot... will be interesting to see if it is for a one year shot or toward a future power team... either way.. good moves..

Is it me or has fielder actually put on more weight since the season started?

July 8, 2008  04:28 PM ET

GO BREWERS!

July 8, 2008  06:12 PM ET

Sabathia just doomed this team. How well is he pitching this season?

Fielder is the fatest vegetarian i've ever seen!

July 8, 2008  07:39 PM ET

They better do something else because the Cubs just got Harden and Chad Gaudin for Gallagher and 3 nobodies.

It's gettin' hot here in the NL central.

July 8, 2008  07:41 PM ET

Then again, isn't Harden past his innings limit for the year?

July 8, 2008  10:41 PM ET

With the addition of Harden to the Cubs, they better get more. The "wild card" won't mean a thing. You have to go for broke sometimes. This is that time gentlemen. Just settling for a trip to the playoffs is meaningless if you don't do something with it. Better, obviously, to win the division, or better yet, the NL pennant.

i think sheets and cc should decide to both sign for a little less with the breweres this offseason, leave a little of their money for all the other young guys and to pick up some more talent, and they have a contenteder for the next 10 years

Yankeefan

CC has refused to negotiate with anyone until the end of the season. Do you think for one second he's open to giving a discount? Santana money and not a dime less.

The Cubs have this division wrapped up. With Harden they have the NL's best rotation. Watch for fat boy CC eat himself into oblivion.
