Bedard talks trade on Philly radio

Erik Bedard went on Philadelphia radio with the local ESPN affiliate yesterday, as rumors continue to swirl about the Phillies now itching to land him in a deal. He didn't openly welcome a trade to Philadelphia, saying all the politically correct things. Then again, he didn't exactly turn it down either. Bedard usually puts total effort into steering as far clear of the media as he possibly can. He turned down the entire Toronto press corps during a visit to that city last month. Now, he's granting a radio interview in the city rumored to be his hottest landing point in a trade? I don't think it would be unfair for some to speculate that he may be greasing the skids for a deal out of town.

I dont' think this guy is cut out to deal with the media and fan pressure he is going to face in Philly....if he is eventually traded there.

There is little media/fan pressure on the Phillies in Philly. The media around the Eagles and the Phillies are very different.

July 8, 2008  05:34 PM ET

Yeah but I bet is more intense than Baltimore or Seattle.

July 8, 2008  05:37 PM ET

I think the Phillies fans see the writing on the wall and are getting their Eagles jersey's ready.

we have a lefty named Cole Hamels. Now we need a righty to replace Brett Myers. I think Rich Harden would be a better and cheaper fit considering Seattle is prolly going to want as least as much for Bedard as they spent to get him from Baltimore.

It better not be Shane Victorino as trade bait!!!!!!!!!!1

no point the METS are gonna mow them down

in case people dont understand how thing work around here i will give you the heads up the mets are hitting their straps and its all over

Rots of ruck to Philly if they sign this dog rocket. He had his chance in Seattle.

July 8, 2008  06:40 PM ET

Philly's dont have enough young talent in their farm system. Other than Carlos Carrasco Mariner's GM would want another young pitcher and young outfielder that can hit for average and power. The trade would make sense for the Mariners because this would allow Brandon Morrow to become the second starter. Acquiring the outfielder will allow the Mariners the option to not sign Raul to a big contract.

We're not talking about the Cy Young winner here. We're talking about the guy who finished 5th once. Just because you bought high doesn't mean you're going to be able to sell high.

Your GM also gave Carlos Silva 18 million per year and gave Jeff Weaver over 8 million per year.

phillies will not get bedard, they will sign a over the top pitcher and finsh third, this front office suck, brewers got cc, cubs got harden, phils blow, eagles soon baby

July 8, 2008  09:32 PM ET

Yeah, we fired our last GM Pat something! Moving foward. Bedard's a legit number one starter. How bad do the Phillies want to win?

July 8, 2008  09:42 PM ET

Phillyfool27, I agree I can't wait till football season! NFL and College football most exciting thing besides sex!!! Go Seahawks!

How about this on the cover page of the hometown baseball section.

Are they serious? Do they really have pitchers of Zambrano, CC and Mark Mulder side by side? Surely they are just trying to shame the Cards into trading for Bedard or some other front line pitcher.

July 8, 2008  10:28 PM ET

I believe that was a tactical scheme from NEW Mariner's GM Lee Pelekoudas!!!! Is it working?

July 8, 2008  10:52 PM ET

I doubt it's working. No matter what they say. The Cardinals are still in rebuilding mode. One catcher and a slew of outfield prospects are all we have to offer at this point. There's no pitching on the farm to speak of. Any that was on the farm is already needed on the big club.

CardsFans2, Sorry I would of replied sooner but I was too busy laughing at the blogs on Truth&Rumor NFL; Steelers Ownership in Turmoil. You should read the last two pages some good stuff!!

High and outside, that pitch shall be. I have foreseen it.

Bedard did well in Baltimore. Maybe a return to the East Coast would help. But what can Philly give Seattle in return?
