Let me guess...the Pope called Miami/NBC and said "make this happen or I'll curse your program(s) a thousand years." Whatever sells the market as long as the school(s) get a cut of the action. Does the Pope get a cut? lol

Not so fast, ok yes both ND & Miami have been down & out for more years then anyone (who is a fan or apart of the school) would like to admit. But both schools are moving back up the latter. Most people would watch this game over alot of other games. I'm not saying its a Miami v's FSU game or ND v's USC, but for some they can remember 80's & when these two teams were the TOP of the latter.
As an ND fan I hope this game is something we get to watch soon.

I think they ment marquee as in the name. Everyone knows about ND & their history.
They should have "shared" the NC in '93, when they beat FSU in the #1 v's # 2
game. But other then that I'd say '88 (NC yr) & '89 11-1. 24 W's in a roe.
Out On Bail - Lov that pic!! I wish ND had cheerleaders like that!

Are none of you old enough to remember the Catholics v. the Convicts games that made up the college football season for the better part of the late 80's into the beginning of the 90's until ND dropped the U from it's schedule. This was one of the premier matchups that should be brought back. Miami has been down for a few years but if I'm correct in the last decade they finished second, won a national championship and lost another the following year. How many other teams can say that. Along with the amount of talent that leaves early for the NFL on a regular basis. ND will always be ND. Which is why I can only say GO CANES!!

And...lasst time I checked Miami had the most national championships of any D1 program over the last 25 years. I guess that doesn't buy a few down years or anything.

Listen to you haters, if ND was irrelevant then why do you still talk about Notre Dame. Deep down inside all of you love ND, the ex that just will not shut up and go away. GO IRISH.

I'd like to see that since Miami has to potential to be a powerhouse team with the recruits they are picking up. Question is if Notre Dame wants this match up? My guess is no with Michigan and USC already cemented in.

As to the topic, this would be an AWESOME game to bring to the season! Great news, indeed.
As to the comments...
"...if I'm correct in the last decade they finished second, won a national championship and lost another the following year."
"And...lasst time I checked Miami had the most national championships of any D1 program over the last 25 years."
Amazing how quickly people seem to (or better said, choose to) forget that, huh? A few years of mediocre ball due to a coach who couldn't recruit and simply rode the coat tails of the groundwork layed before him and all of the haters make it seem like Miami is forever dead and buried. Get real! Have you seen our 08 class??? Have you read about the commits we have already for 09?!?!?
If you think Miami is a bottom feeder now you are either ignorant, or more likely, a typical Miami hater who's been waiting half their life to have a chance to kick The U while it's down. Take your shots, enjoy your licks, 'cause Miami reached their low and is on the way back up now... and will be up in your face dominanting the college football landscape in no time. And you'll have nothing to do once again but hate on us.
THE U: Loved by few, hated my many, respected by all.

I agree, Warden. Miami will be back at the top soon and will once again be one of those teams that nobody desires to square up with... and so, what does ND have to gain from the matchup? Probably not too much, so I doubt they'll sign up for it. Love to see it though, we'll see.

Exactly For The U, exactly. How many star pro athletes came from the program. They are like THE feeder program for NFL teams.

Historically speaking they are great programs but ND has stunk it up for the last many years and we wouldnt even see their games on TV if it wasnt for the NBC contract

I think it's awesome! Miami is calling the Irish out, but I don't think ND will have the stones to accept! Miami is going to build their program back to national champions by going out and finding the biggest names and best teams to play! This while UF is looking at scheduling Boy Scout Troop 783, but negotiations are hung up on UF not wanting to play the game at the National Boy Scout Jamboree because it give Troop 783 to much of an advantage!

I don't think ND has anything to fear by playing Miami. It will all depend on the $$ involved. These neutral sight games are a road show for the Irish, where they can prevail in a larger venue in areas that don't usually get a chance to see the road show live. My guess is that they won't view Miami worthy and will choose lessor (and less $$ demanding) foes.

If Miami wants to get back to their recruiting roots and find the kind of talent they enjoyed in the 80's and 90's they have no farther to look than the Florida Penal System. Those boys can run fast, just not fast enough to outrun the cops!
GO IRISH!
