Scratch Philadelphia from the list of NBA teams pursuing Hawks restricted free agent forward Josh Smith. With Elton Brand out of the picture, the Clippers are suddenly in the market for a forward. Smith is currently in Los Angeles on "business," according to his agent. Smith was in Philadelphia last week for a visit and was wined and dined by the Sixers, but left town without a verbal agreement to sign an offer sheet.

don't do it clips, big mistake..

July 9, 2008  07:46 AM ET

If it's a "big mistake", then it's money in the books already that the Clippers do it.

The Clippers are among the most blundering organizations of the Big 4 pro sports teams in the US.

Smith - Just take a 5-yr 50M from ATL and be happy. You aren't worth more than that, and you are best suited where you are right now.

July 9, 2008  08:46 AM ET

Clippers should offer 5 years and 60 mill and they have a nice lineup of

G-Baron
G-Mobley/Gordon
F-Smith/Tim Thomas
F-Thornton
C-Kaman/Jordan

Plus if they sign Josh Powellm Q Ross, Livingston to provide some depth

This could be a good thing for the Clips. Kaman has enough post move to carry the team. Kaman and Brand cannot be in at the same time because they both occupy the low post on offense.

Josh Smith should stay with Atlanta. I have the feeling that he is going to suck anywhere else. I don't know how much money he is looking for, but he is not worth more than $40-50 million.

July 9, 2008  09:15 AM ET

The Clips would sure be an exciting team to watch...Davis, Gordon, Thornton, and Smith. Thats 4 top shelf Athletes all with at least 40 inch verticals. Most dunks in the league for any team for sure!

July 9, 2008  09:17 AM ET

I would basolutely not blame smith for taking the biggest offer on the table.
he is younr & in his prime earning years..........

HOWEVER

You are going to go from atlanta to the Clippers ?
arguably the 2nd worst NBA franchise to the WORST one ?

I hope he doen't do it- I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy

July 9, 2008  09:39 AM ET

aw.. i really thought some good things were happening with the hawks..regardless, clips will still be la's second best team

July 9, 2008  09:46 AM ET

This dude would scare the hell out of me if I was a GM. He just seems like a knucklehead that will get complacent when he signs a big deal. What exactly has he ever done?

July 9, 2008  10:00 AM ET

1. he's not the player you need, clips.
2. pray deandre jordan really develops, even if you only got him in the 2nd round.
3. sorry baron, elton brand is a backstabber.

July 9, 2008  10:04 AM ET

The Clippers would have a nice, young and talented lineup for the future if they aquired him.

July 9, 2008  10:15 AM ET

The Clippers always have a young and talented lineup. For some reason, that is a major problem for them. It's like a bunch of kids playing unorganized pickup basketball. The only reasonable leader that team has had in recent years was Sam Cassell for god sakes. I know people like Brand, but he doesn't quite fill the leadership role.

July 9, 2008  10:20 AM ET

Philly screwed up by passing on this guy. Now LA will be more athletic. With Baron Davis running the point, the development of Thornton and a healthy Kaman this team could be sleeper to make the playoffs this year. Teams like Dallas, Denver, and Portland will have to step their games up.

July 9, 2008  10:27 AM ET

maxwellinformed,

What is your fascination with Josh Smith? What exactly has he done? I know Atlanta made a little run against the Celtics, but a large part of that was Joe Johnson carrying that team, not Josh Smith. I don't see him as an all-star or anything like that. Elton Brand has proven that he play before the major injuries. I think Portland is just fine. They are pretty loaded at this point with Bayless, Roy, Oden, Aldridge, Batum, and even Frye off the bench.

July 9, 2008  10:48 AM ET

that would be a sick lineup...especially if brand hurts himself again..all ankle injuries are degenerative...josh smith with baron and cuttino would be exciting and kaman is a very good low post player..not great, but very good by todays standards...this could end up being a blessing in disguise..

maxwellinformed,

What is your fascination with Josh Smith?
bertchboy7 | 07/09/08, 10:27 AM

People forget Josh Smith is just a Kidd, he would probably be the top pick in this year's draft had he stayed four years in school. 23 athletic, plays defense. There was a guy named Kevin Garnett that started blossoming around this age too. Granted their games are different but youth, athleticism, skill, all this makes for a pretty good player to pick up when you can.

Man I hope the Spurs are seriously looking at Josh Smith. TD and TP would love playing with this kid.
