Noonan returning to MLS?

Those rumors you hear about Pat Noonan returning to Major League Soccer? Keep them in the rumor pile for now. Never mind the fact that Noonan's rumored salary for Aalesunds, the Norwegian club that holds his registration for another 2.5 years, is $400,000 and the league offered him less than half that to re-sign before he scampered off to Norway. Forget about whether Noonan could engineer a free transfer or something close to it in order to return to the American top-flight because the league certainly won't pay much of a transfer fee. To most people, Noonan's return to MLS is a sealed deal, but the Revs, who still hold Noonan's rights, hadn't heard much as of Tuesday except from a few teams sniffing around about a possible deal.

do the revs have the spot or the cap space for noonan's return?? i wouldnt be surprised if the Revs held onto the empty cap space when he departed... i think they really only picked up the 2 gambians (who are in DEV contracts), and Manzonelli (who also is under the DEV contract)

Why would he even go to that team? What good was it going to do? Come back home and take a pay-cut buddy. You earned it by taking a stupid deal like that.

Anyway know how he has done over there? I like him as a player, but never thought he was the star he was held up to be. Also, I recall him being rather fragile.

Yeah he was always getting hurt in the MLS. Any one can get hurt over here though. I think we play the toughest and hardest-hitting style in the world. If we can't catch you, that's fine we will trip you.

I didnt know he was gone!!!!!? When? Where?

Otergod, I can't believe Nyassi and Mansally are on Dev contracts. Don't they pay next to nothing? I'd be happy for Noonan to come back - he was one of my favorite Revs players before he left.

gravitydaemon- Dev Contracts pay out next to nothing.... tend to range between 13k - 19k.....

in all honesty, Noonan has earned the chance to get his paycheck... if he chooses to stay and ride the pine, at least he'll be getting paid for it....

he was never really in favor with the USMN, and i dont see that improving any.... if i was him i would stay and receive the $$$....

Nyassi and Mansally don't deserve any more than a D contract. They aren't that great. The only time they are all that good is when they play it long and watch them chase it.

July 9, 2008  12:41 PM ET

Nyassi and Mansally see productive for the revs so far.... they add speed and flair.... seeing this is their first year in a new country and new team i would say they are doing fine... yet another reason why the Revs have quite the eye for diamonds in the rough.....

i agree tho, they dont deserve anything higher then a Dev. Contract as they havent proven otherwise.... obviously they have this season, but signing them was no guarentee they'd succeed...... its not like they were established in the argentinian or mexican league...they were blank faces from africa

Norway, wow...

Come back man!

July 9, 2008  03:17 PM ET

Is Norway a Scandinavian League?

July 9, 2008  03:26 PM ET

Yep

July 9, 2008  03:32 PM ET

the guy is off the USMN scanners.... i wouldnt even start noonan over EJ (which is sad).... i like Noonan, just dont see what coming home will do for him... he's banking in norway, compared to the MLS..... let him enjoy his stay and come home a richer man
