It appears former IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti is remaining in NASCAR, at least for time being. According to NASCAR's most recent entry list for this weekend's Nationwide race at Chicagoland Speedway, Franchitti is now driving the No. 40 in Friday night's Dollar General 300, replacing rookie Bryan Clausen, who was originally scheduled to be in the car. Reached by phone Tuesday night, John Olguin, Ganassi's vice president of marketing and communications, said he could not confirm Franchitti was in the car this weekend. Sources close to the situation told the Observer Clausen has been informed by Ganassi officials he would not be in the car for one or two weeks.

I got a better idea, lets talk about JR. some more today!

This is the start of the downward spiral. First it is down to Nationwide, then to Craftsman, then to one of the ARCA rides.....now Dario knows how Dontrelle Willis feels. Dude goes from top of his game to the minors then out completely. Top of the Indy Game to Nationwide.....sad.

Franchitti should have run nationwide all year to begin with.
Ganassi had to of known his cup ride was going to have sponsorship trouble for this year. He could have put Franchitti in Nationwide and spent the year
securing a solid team for next Season.

Floatman; Good morning to you. I see you are in your buddy's lap early today. It's kind of early in Ca. isn't it?

I'm going to agree with Asbel here, Nationwide all season would have done him wonders. Now Ganassi needs to find Clauson a truck ride to finish out the year.

And pretty soon Ashley will start looking more and more like her sister.

Just read this on FOX

Juan Pablo Montoya supported owner Chip Ganassi's decision to shutter Dario Franchitti's race team, believing it was for the betterment of the organization.

"I think the big picture people need to understand is we did this to make ourselves better," Montoya said. "Short-term, people might think the team is crazy. But if we didn't do this, we were never going to get any better."

Franchitti found a ride, by buying the EA Sports NASCAR '09 and playing it on the PS3

July 9, 2008  11:27 AM ET

So the guy who won last year's Indy 500 can only get a ride by replacing 'Bryan Clausen'. What a comedown.

Man I hope this curbs the migration of Indy/F-1 drivers to real racing. Let the up and comers take a shot at the big time.

Amen to that, bro!!

Just because they drive in Grand-Am, Le Mans, IndyCar, or F-1 doesn't mean it isn't real racing. Well you can debate F-1.

July 9, 2008  01:01 PM ET

Do NASCAR drivers strive to make it to Grand-Am? Do they yearn to be the top in the CHAMP league?? NO, they all eventually want to get to NASCAR if it is possible....where the real racing is at.

If Danica Patrick ever comes to NASCAR the people on this board are going to have a field day.
Me included.

I wouldn't mind seeing her spread atop a COT, but only if she brings her beaver!

Just because established NASCAR drivers don't want to leave NASCAR doesn't mean it's the only form of real racing. Tell me, what must Franchitti, Montoya, Hornish, and Villeneuve prove in open wheel? Nothing, they've won everything. As far as I see it open wheelers view NASCAR as the next challenge in their career.

Do you agree that they should start in the Nationwide or maybe even the Truck series to get some experience?

I'm betting most of them are too Proud to even think about anything but the Cup Series, and there is where the problem is.
