Heat eyes point guard market

The Heat is being patient in its search for a starting point guard in case something more attractive materializes than the current lot of unrestricted free agents. The Bulls, for example, want to secure restricted free agents Luol Deng and Ben Gordon before potentially moving Kirk Hinrich. The Heat told Jason Williams' camp that it's pursuing other options but wouldn't completely rule out a return (which is unlikely). Same with backup center Earl Barron.

white chocolate is done in the league. good riddance

July 9, 2008  07:02 AM ET

get kirk...he's dirty, he's good...we don't have a dirty player now...we let posey go...need someone who's not afraid to get under the other players skin.

White chocolate has/had the dribbling skills to be a superstar in the NBA. Too bad he's inconsistent and with a shaky jumper.

July 9, 2008  07:45 AM ET

Williams is not done in the NBA but he will sign for 4-5 million somewhere, he is another Nick Van Exel, all sizzle and flash but little substance......

July 9, 2008  07:45 AM ET

4-5 mill isnt bad but substantially less than the 8 plus mill he made with the Heat

July 9, 2008  07:46 AM ET

Send Haslem and a player to Chi for Hinrich

G-Hinrich
G-Wade
F-Beasley
F-Marion
C-Blount

2 super stars, 1 potential superstar, a solid if not spectacular PG and a decent big man

Hinrich a "solid if not spectacular PG"? i dont know about that one.. still... thats a pretty solid core but with the still the problem of needing a stronger low post threat

I would like to see Hinrich on the Heat. Miami should push to make this happen, he has no purpose on the Bulls now with Rose coming in. He has a huge contract which is an issue, but I would take the risk on him if I was the Heat. Jason Williams aka white chocolate is done. Teams generally don't like PGs that turn the ball over 10 times a game. He'll have to sign with some desperate team and then he can work on those across the shoulder passes that he does. Good riddance.

"he has no purpose on the Bulls now with Rose coming in"

Um, what about as a back-up ?

what if rose doesn't pan out, or gets hurt or just needs some time to develop ?
- Kirk is a back-up point guard or a starter on a weak team

Hinrich would be a good fit in Miami. He is a point guard that is more a spot shooter - wouldn't that work well with Wade, who has the ball a lot? He plays good D and has good instincts. Get it done, Pat.

I like that move, but what would be even better would be Kirk Hinrich, Cedric Simmons, and a future 1st round pick for Udonis Haslem, Marcus Banks, and a future 2nd rounder.

C - Alonzo Mourning
PF - Michael Beasley
SF - Shawn Marion
SG - Dwyane Wade
PG - Kirk Hinrich

It looks like a playoff roster to me.....

Where's Heat Fan? I seriously would like to hear his take on this topic.

July 9, 2008  10:19 AM ET

jgb,

I'm pretty sure Hinrich is making $14 million a year right now. You want to keep him around as a backup point guard? Dump that mother of a contract while you still can. Backup point guards are always available. They are always around, just ask the Knicks.

July 9, 2008  10:20 AM ET

Kirk Hinrich still has potential to be a great point guard. I haven't completely give up on him. The Bulls probably have though.

July 9, 2008  10:22 AM ET

I actually think they should hand over the keys to the rookie PG that played in the summer league game (forgot his name). I watched him on NBA.com webcast, looks great!! Maybe another Rondo type player; Throw him i the waters, let him swim....enuf with the J wil's and kirk's and crap

July 9, 2008  11:37 AM ET

Whatever the Heat do please dont hassle Hasslem....they need to keep that guy. That's all I have to say about that.

July 9, 2008  12:49 PM ET

this is actually a good thing. he won't need to dribble much. but for people's info, they would probably put marion at sf and beasley at pf cause marion doesn't like playin pf

July 9, 2008  01:03 PM ET

Chris Quinn ran the team beautifully when J Will was down & shot 40% from 3 point range if the Celtics trusted Rondo y cant Riley trust Quinn?
If we dont keep Earl Barron please do not i repeat do not select kwame deadness brown get Patrick O'Bryant maybe.
pg Quinn
sg Wade
sf Marion
pf Beasly
